What's The Best Way To Learn L Numbers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Calling out L numbers in an LFS !!!???!!! That is priceless !!!!

You'd be surprised. Most of my many LFSs I shop from are owned by people from my local fish club and one I go to's owner can call out about every L number and scientific name of each pleco he has but can barely remember common names. He's also obsessed with plecos with them being the number one fish he breeds and collects, I'll have to post some pictures of his collection on here one day.

Stumped me, I'd say L600 but you said it's not Pseudacanthus so I'm drawing a blank here :P

That is awesome. Most of the LFS around here aren't like that. For any species of fish.

Try to find that pleco by looking through the list on PlanetCatfish.com here is a hint the L number for this guy is between L75 and L105 that gives you only 30 pleco's to look through.

I know for me I learned the L numbers I know by either owning them or by wanting to own one and doing research on that one pleco. I by no means know even a 3rd of all the pleco's or the L numbers but researching them will help you learn.

Ok, let me cheat. Look at the little bit of color on this "cheek" and search that color and where it's at according on google.

It's still ok to google common names. In cases like this, once you get the answer you want, just concentrate on the L# instead of the common names you find.
