What's the hardest fish to catch in an aquarium?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Took me a couple months to catch a stinking zebra danio in my 24g planted. To top it off I only caught it once I tore the tank down to relocate it. As soon as I netted that danio it went straight to the feeder tank.

Never had a problem netting any of my 20+ clown loaches although they're in growouts so I can easily drain and remove obstacles.

My hardest fish ever to catch would be 2 kihli loaches out of a heavily planted tank or maybe a convict out of a planted 4'2'2 with lots of driftwood and rocks. Convict was SO hard to catch, got very wet.:)

That was a less than and inch long convict, BTW

When upgrading my koi-goldfish tank to keep other fish, there was one algae-eater that came out of my friends pond.
Was supposed to be a snack for my sunfish, but it grew too quickly.
This fish would escape to the other side of my tank and hide, time and time over
Until i decided too keep him in there...!

Until I got an oscar.
My Oscar had no hard time catching it, just swallowing was a bit hard.

Man i remember one time a couple came round to buy my juvi convict cichlids off me and the last little guy was honestly the ultimate escape artist. They were in a 200 litre tank, kinda felt like keeping him purely for that lol

I gotta say, my Australian silver perch is really difficult to catch.

catching fry in a large tank (100+) is the worst.

That is so true. I pulled fry out of a 110 gallon by the hundreds. It wasn't so bad while they still clung to the glass, but those free swimmers dart around so fast. Plus the longer it takes you, the smarter and faster they become. Must have taken me a full week to get the last ones out of there.

Besides this, I'm not looking forward to the day when I need to catch 3 weather loaches in the same tank... sand substrate, heavily planted, lots of driftwood. Think they're just staying there for good. Or at least until I someday break down the tank completely.

This sounds similar to me. I had a yellow acara I had to keep removing cause he was bullying. After about 2 moves, he didnt like me anymore. Once he noticed me he would hide and wouldnt move to allow me to get him. The fish hated me. I had to trick him too, I would sit byt he tank and act liek I was ignoring him and catch him off guard, but the minute I raised my hand he would go to the hiding spot.

I know what you mean, it's like they do it out of spite. The male sword that I was trying to get, I wanted to remove from the gene pool because I didn't think he was as nice as my other sword, and I swear by the end he was just doing it out of hatred for me. (or maybe I'm just paranoid) haha

i hated catching my piranhas... they kept biting and charging the net so it was useless... in the end i had to use one of my minnow traps and just scoop them with that.. then i was left with a flopping piranha in a 10 inch tall wire mesh thing... so naturally they would flop and try to jump out.. 2 actually did.. and it was scary trying to get them back.. flopping fish with teeth is a no no..
