What's the most grusome death one of your fish has suffered?

i had a piranha literaly bite the whole face off of a convict (right up to just before the eyes) it was the most disturbing thing i've ever seen needless to say i immediately put the con out of it's misery.

it was orignaly supossed to be a feeder but seeing them not finish it off like that was very disturbing.

Bought a small 2" Sun catfish-put in a small 15G to grow on. Tank is filtered by an Eheim Libertine HOB filter-had previously housed a musk turtle so I had the strainer off the intake. You know what I'm going to say next.

Came home several hours after getting the fish . Tank was cloudy with ltiny bits of bits of flesh floating around, the outflow on the filter return was minimal and the impeller was making hell of a whirring sound. In the unit itself was the only remaining part of the catfish and somehow this was its head.

My eldest Son has never forgiven me-the tank was in his room :(

I had an african cichlid get crushed by a rock decor from digging under it.
My RBP tank heater got craked and cooked all 4 of them to a sizzle. Now I only use the "shatterproof" metal heaters.
I had a close call with one of my TSN cats. I walked by his tank and say him sitting on his side gasping like no other. I saw that his belly was HUGE. I thought he was going to explode then all of a sudden he just started sh*ting out a storm. Half my 150 gallon tank was a brown cloud. Then he swam off happy as ever. Then I noticed my 9" small mouth bass was gone. Wonder were he went???

My Leopard Ctenopoma (my baby at the time) somehow got stuck under the intake of an internal filter and blew out its spine. It was literally in a V-shape. I euthanized it on the spot
:( One of the hardest things I ever had to do in this hobby. He was eating flakes, growing rapidly, and even ate out of my hand  :rip

Had a 55 gal full of african cichlids die from a sudden outbreak of velvet. Brutal. By the time I found out what it was and treated it, only 1 fry survived ( 18 fish died ). Once the survivor was fat enough, he was fed to my Fahaka.

Oh, I also almost subjected my "dominant" Yoyo to a really really gruesome death. I used to remove my fish from my tank for water changes. And try getting a 2" Loach out of a heavily aquascaped 3' tank. I was using a Trout net, but I couldn't catch him, so I went about the water change...
20 minutes later, I noticed that only 2 of my Yoyo trio werev there. I searched my room, and nothing. I was distraught. My favorite Yoyo, the "leader" of the Loach pack, and the biggest, seemed gone. I was like, "Where the hell is he??" I went to pick up the closest thing to me to throw it in anger, the Trout net. I felt what felt like a piece of dry rubber on it, and I looked, and there was my dominant Yoyo clipped to the Trout net rim by his subocular. He was completely dry and listless. I cut the mesh away and tossed him into the tank.

And you know what?

I still have him 3 months later :D

I just found another one :irked:
This morning my Bolivian Ram, one of my favorite fish, interacts with my hand on the glass, got stuck behind the filter. He was beaten up but getting better, and was starting to swim around like he always did. I just found him dead and bloody, courtesy of my opportunistic Yoyo Loaches and my Clown Loach :wall:

my delhezi used to hide is head in a rock....one day i came home and he wasnt moving and he had burst blood vessels all down his body.
cracked the rock open (one of theose plastic ones) and his head was all caved in. somehow he had got stuck and wriggles so much he killed himself :-(

then when i gave my tank to my mate, the next day she called me saying one of my senegals had died. the internal filter had fallen apart and so the fan bit was exposed....he got sucked in and shredded :-(
