What's your level and why?

:DSome tanks are higher water levels and some are below for mainly the same reasons .. although i do not like the look of lower water levels ..the african baby "venustus" tank must be lower because they go wild at feeding time and jump out .. there i am with baby food in one hand and net in the other.. so i lowered the water level and keep the top down except for a crack to slip the food in:D they are a wild bunch:D And the arow tank i keep down a bit for the same reason..don't want him bumping his face if he gets jumpy..

i was just about to start a thread about this, but you beat me to it, i was wondering the same thing, why do i see tanks with water levels 2"-3" below the trim line? is there a reason or just owner preference? i keep mine right at the trim line

Hopefully I do not get clowned for this....The son of the very first fish store ever built in San Franicisco, called NIPPON, told me this tip: To keep about 2 inches of space from top of waterline to cover...This allowed a fair amount gas exchange to circulate and disperse....Today, I have no covers needed on my tanks....I build screens with plastic-type mesh wiring to cover the tops....It is open to the oxygenated air for gas exchange, yet closed to any fish that would want to jump out....

I keep mine filled to the top of my overflows...LOL

i keep my water level a little low for the same reason i dont fill my sump more than half way.If i have a power out or a drain backup i dont want water on my floor.I leave enough space in my tank for my sump to run dry w/ the drain closed and not overflow that means im about a half in under my trim

All my tanks but one I keep just above the trim line... the only exception is the tank with my fire eel. I had a couple of eels pull some jumping exits on my tanks before, so I keep the water level a little more than a half inch below the trim. The tank has a hood, and I've just ordered an all-glass hood for it, but there are still some spots for escape around the filter output, heater cords, etc, so I leave a litte room so him aim isnt as good as it would be if he could just swim up to the opening.

I keep it above the trim. I hate looking at hard water deposits, and when the water line is below the rim, sooner or later there will be visible hard water deposits on the glass. YMMV.
Same here.

Mines 2inch on one side and 1inch on the other side... DUH!

I keep mine as high as it takes to turn the AC110's "waterfall" into a big ripple on the surface. It keeps my rec-room a lot quieter that way.

Burt :)
Same, my tanks are in my main room and I can't can't stand the sound otherwise.
