There are people who keep jags, flower horns etc in 55 gallon tanks.

Most people on this forum who are really in it for the fish will upgrade when they need to, so don't assume he won't.

I've never seen a jag outgrow a 55 gallon, nor a flowerhorn. So someone please post pics, and show us.
A jag can get to 20"+, certain breeds of FH's can get to 14-16" (maybe larger, but the biggest I remember seeing was 16"), so why do you believe that either of them could live in a tank that is only 12 inches wide? I have no idea where you are getting your logic from... :screwy: And if you want pics, I'm sure you can find them yourself, they're all over the forums.

And I guess you just haven't been here long enough to see all the examples of people who just let there fish become stunted in small tanks b/c plans for an upgrade fell through (I have seen it plenty of times). And even if he did have an upgrade planned, I think he would have probably included that in the OP.

why not just an oscar fish
dont really get passed 10-12inchs
one will be fine in a 55 with good filtration
Ps: ive never seen a jack or GT grow big enough to out grow a 55
but a jag yes

I've seen oscars outgrow 55 gallon tanks. My neighbor had ones the size of dinner plates.

I've never seen a jag get past 10", but I know they are supposed to.

From everything I have read on Jags, their max in captivity is 16" if you're lucky. Yeah, in the WILD they can reach 20"+ but in aquariums it's 16".

And way to throw everyone in the boat for assuming that they won't upgrade. You didn't even give the guy a chance to even say if he would upgrade.

Most aquarium fish don't belong in 55 gallons, but people put them in there anyways...

:screwy: There are examples on this site of jags kept in captivitythat are over 16", so that arguement is just bs. The rest of your arguements are so rediculous that I'm not even going to respond to them...

Even petsmart knows better than that...

spell check much?

I am just relaying what every fish information site says. They all say 16" in captivity if lucky. And by captivity they mean fish tank, not a national aquarium size tank.

I have a jag, and I read up before I bought him, and everything told me 16". No, I wouldn't put a full grown Jag in a 55" if they are 16". Mine was stunted, and isn't getting larger, so a 55 is more than enough, but I was stating that to think he won't upgrade is absurd. Give him a chance to prove himself before you shoot off saying these are all horrible choices.

If I buy a 2" Jag, I am not going to put him in a 300 gallon alone when he will be fine in a 55 for a bit of time.

Post this exact post in the SA/CA cichlid forum, and see what the experts have to say about that. Believe me, you are dead wrong and have obviously been misinformed. And that first comment just shows immaturity, there are no major spelling errors in that post, it was an insignificant typo that should have no effect on that post's ledgibility, so get over it.

I can feel the animosity through my computer.
