Hope your manny has started eating again.

This is a great thread on Manny keeping and it’s very encouraging to see its growth throughout the months.

I am about to get small one too and hence the need to seek your experience:

1. Is it easy to convert it to non live food? Any tips?

2. What are your filtration set ups like? Any use of wavemakers? My grow out tank is running on an Eiheim Classic plus a Ziss (k1) inside filter...hope it’s adequate enough.

3. Are you doing weekly water changes?

4. Do you reckon it is better to give the fish a lot of hiding spaces (rocks, wood and plants)?

Sincere thanks in advance and hope to see more updates on your magnificent manny.

Thanks Aimara! :)

1. My manny was fed on non live food by an importer and he said that it wasn't a problem.

2. I have 2 external filters: Eheim 2226 (950l/h) and 2028 (1050l/h), I have also a circulating pump Aquael Reef Circulator 2500 (2600 l/h)

3. Yes, I change 30-40% of water every week.

4. My manny is more active when the ligts are off, so I give my manny a shade made by big Cryptocoryne plants ...but I think that manueli also needs a lot of swimming space so I wouldn't make too many hiding spaces.

I think that my 300l (83g) tank is too small for my manny, don't you think so?

Thanks for your response.

I hope there will be a chance to share my manny pics and progress here as well when it becomes stabilized in time.

IMHO, your current tank size is still adequate for your manny (keeping mine in a 100 liter at the moment; the one I bought is much smaller at about 3 inches hence the anxiety).
Perhaps with another 2-3 inches growth you may consider expanding its swimming space.

It’s in the tank for a couple of days already. Apologies to “hijack” this thread but it seems that this is the most current and interactive one on Manueli at the moment and perhaps could be the place for us to share the experience on keeping one.

No problem :), that's a good idea! How big is your manny? Beautiful fish! Do you keep plecos with your manny? I'm asking because there is a breeding cave for plecos on the pic, I've read that manuelis usually ignore big plecos.

The manny is about 2-3 inches only. LOL! Would really wanted something bigger but the mortality rate is pretty high.

Caves were for some hypans I used to keep but there is no other fishes inside the tank at the moment. Manny is feeding on 2-3 guppies daily at the moment...hopefully within another week or so I will to convert it to non live food.
