So the plan for the new tank (96x24x30) is as follows:
Current stock
aequidens rivulatus
rocio octofasciata
citrinellus cichlasoma
thorichthys meeki
amatitlania nigrofasciata

Wishlist
cichlasoma festae
cichlasoma Bocourti

And a parachromis but I can't decide which one. I dont have experience with any. I'm torn between a Freddy or an rtm, but there are some very cool loisellei pics around as well. So help me pick.

I'd like to add all stock at once. Everyone will be around the 4-6" mark and I might rehouse the firemouth and con at some point. Thanks!

I think Loiselli are the calmest of the Parachromis and also don't grow too big! (I've found that they are easier to get hold of than freddies! Sometimes sold as freddies)

Calm is not necessarily a bad thing but they ll need to be able to handle themselves. I'm leaning RTM after looking at tons of pics of each. But maybe Freddy...

How big to RTM's typically get? Are they 12" or larger like a managuense?

Managuensis is the only one I've owned (still do). She can definitely hold her own, maybe a little too well sometimes. Great personality, too. She has her mood swings, though. She gets especially nasty when it is time to drop eggs. Never killed anything, but isn't scared to shred some fins.

I originally thought I would do a managuensis but after I saw the RTM and Freddy I started second guessing myself. Either way, they are great fish. Just wanted a little insight from some owners. I figure aggression will be pretty much the same but size is a bit different between them.

After digging in a little deeper it appears most resources say the loisellei, Freddy and RTM all grow to about a foot. My male Midas will reach that by the end of the year and a festae will be there as well. I'm thinking sizewise a managuense might be a smarter choice due to it's larger adult size.

I might have a greater chance of success by choosing a larger fish. My Jd appears to be headed for the foot plus mark and seems to have enough tude to be able to hang. Midas eats like a pig and is just a bit larger then the Jd. My GT is gonna be a different story. She appears to be female, but she seems a little on the small side and is growing slowly. We ll have to play it by ear with her as well as the con and firemouth.

Managuense might be the right fish after all
