Who else is with me? Who else hates plecos???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't hate them as something swimming in some remote far away river and a part of nature, But i don't believe they belong into a fish tank, At least they don't belong to my fish tank

i love my pleco he's the only fish in my 150 gallon piranha tank that actualy has a name (jerry) he's not super active most of the time but at night and/or when im feeding the piranhas he's right in there stealing from the piranhas and then defending his stolen food he's definately has the most personality out of all the fish in that tank(more than the convicts even)

You could apply some of the some points to polypterus, which you apparently don't hate.

Nothing wrong with plecos. They are dirty, but so are a lot of other fish. And tons of people keep plecos with poly without anything bad happening, most plecos won't bother them. As for them not being "pretty", most polys aren't either, that's not why we keep them. And I had a pleco that moved way more than my weeksii does, so that's not really a good argument...

Having Pleco in the tank is not bad..
At least it does some cleaning job n give good company to its tank mates..

They may clean the glass, but the algae they eat comes out, and somehow a lot of other crap comes out even when they aren't eating. It is almost counter productive. Would you rather
A: a clean glass and sky high nitrates
B: Dirty glass (clean it yourself!!) normal water parameters

personally, i say "B"

I would go with clean glass and have a pretty interesting fish only while having an adequate maintenance regime in place to cope with the waste they produce.

nothing prettier than an albino bristlenose IMO. they look pretty and even work quite hard on keeping surface algae to a minimum. every bristlenose or sailfin pleco ive had has been very active through the day.

waste with sky high nitrates shouldnt be that big an issue if you are prepared for housing a pleco and the maintenance. which, like any fish, you should be before you buy it.
predatory fish also make huge volumes of waste yet there are no complaints.

Predatory fish are a whole different story

Why would a pleco cause you to have "sky high nitrates"? Did you not do water changes when you owned a pleco?
