I would go with clean glass and have a pretty interesting fish only while having an adequate maintenance regime in place to cope with the waste they produce.

nothing prettier than an albino bristlenose IMO. they look pretty and even work quite hard on keeping surface algae to a minimum. every bristlenose or sailfin pleco ive had has been very active through the day.

waste with sky high nitrates shouldnt be that big an issue if you are prepared for housing a pleco and the maintenance. which, like any fish, you should be before you buy it.
predatory fish also make huge volumes of waste yet there are no complaints.

Why would a pleco cause you to have "sky high nitrates"? Did you not do water changes when you owned a pleco?

Ive never had one but from looking at them in the lfs i don't think id ever really buy one. Good for cleaning the tank but that's about it.

have to admit, ive always been a little scared of plecos. they are ok when they are small but the large ones sorta freak me out

i haven't had a single pleco that sucked on my bichirs. i've had 4 different plecos in with my bichirs

I did say i hated, than clarified that it was a strong word and than said that i greatly dislike them in every way, same thing with danios.

IMO, that is the exact same thing said two different ways. It's like if I said "Wow, you're really ugly," and then said "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that, what I meant to say was that you are extremely visually unappealing." (btw, I'm not trying to insult you, just giving an example)

They shouldn't raise the nitrates if you have enough filtration and have a sufficient WC schedule. If they raised the nitrates so much then how do you think we are able to keep them alive?

Reasons:
They crap, ALOT!!!

Only a vast minority of them are "pretty" and those that are "pretty" are very expensive
