Who loves bowfishing???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've never tried it but my dad use to bowfish for carp as a kid. It looks like a lot of fun, I'd definitely give it a try!

If I saw a group of Common Carp (not Silvers, I avoid those) I would instead of a bow and arrow pull out an 8 lb spinning outfish. 100 times the sport. And catch and release. In NY Carp are NOT purposly inilated. They are considered a game fish!
well down here they are a destructive pest.

We thinking of the same carp? Cyprinnus Carpio? I know there's a problem with Grass Carp but IDK about Commons

I know the arrows are different, but can any regular sport bow work? how much would it cost to get into the hobby?

Carp dig up plants and create so much mud and silt that it chokes out plants. Commons are more widespread because they are good bait.

I dont like bowfishing. I like it a little more if it's for food. but pics like this

I found an article in an older georgia sportsman magazine they saw you dont need very expensive equipment but you need high strentgh line.

It can be cheap as you want or expensive as you want... Hell I go really cheap I use a stick to throw a 6 foot stick with a carved up rib bone from yesterdays lunch on the tip.. you can make the equipment in about 20 minutes if you wanted to...

What little actual bowfishing I've done I just used a homemade osage sinew backed bow, Osier Dogwood arrows tipped with bone points and cord made from dogbane or jute twine.

on the other end you could spend about a thousand on specialty equipment...
