mines is going to be overstocked

55g, oscar, 5 convicts, 1 JD, 1 sen. bichir
the bichir is 4x the size of my JD(bought it recently for $1.88) but he/she still manages to survive :)
im going to have to upgrade once my oscar gets bigger :(

why so sad about upgrading? you kinda asked for it?

oh yea.. and "manages to survive :)" won't cut it forever. your just waiting for another thread about "omg i learned a lesson today :( i thought it wouldn't happen" do the right thing and get that JD/Bicher seperated.

i dont think an overstocked tank is defined JUST by how long your stock list is... its the mass of your fish + movement style. i can have 1000 snails in a 55g and if i just named all the different species somebody here who doesn't know might get all high and mighty and say "omg thats cruel" and when you come to my house you see 1000 snails taking up a single corner of the 55g and then you get PWNED!

They will die... oscar and jag will get terrirorial and kill each other and everyone else trust me...
Its not if its when....

why am i sad about upgrading? because i'll have to spend more money and move stuff around and explain to my parents why i need a new tank. just because i "asked for it" doesn't mean i can't be sad about the extra work, and just because i'm sad about the extra work doesn't mean i won't upgrade when i need to. and i actually had an empty 55g sitting in my room, but i sold it last sunday because my parents thought it looked bad empty and took up too much space
and as for the JD(about 2" including the tail), i'm going to grow it out a bit in a 10g once i finish setting up my planted tank(plants arriving wednesday). i have 5 convicts just a bit bigger than the JD that have been there for 2 months, so the JD should be fine once it grows a bit bigger. for now, i let frozen bloodworm cubes melt in a cup and then i pour it in the tank 3 times(20 secs apart) so the JD gets the food. the jd gets fed at least 3x per day pellets+bloodworms, the bichir gets fed once every 2 or 3 days, doesn't eat pellets, and doesn't bother eating small bits of bloodworms. the JD has been fine for 2 weeks and is going to a new tank in 4 days.

well just a heads up, JDs are notorious for growing very slow.

an example. my JD has been fed extremely well for the 5 months i had it. it was 1" when i bought it. it is now 2". its just about the slowest growing cichlid out there.

if you bought the oscar and JD at the same time at 1" and fed the exact same food, in a year your fish will be something like: Oscar 6-10", JD 4-6".
