Why Are Glasses So Expensive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's why Lasik is worth the cost, one of the best decisions I've ever made, and getting it done young the cost of it will be made up with what I'm not spending on contacts and glasses for the next 50 years.

Aw, last year I dumped $450 on some glasses Ive worn about 2 hours. I liked them when I tried them on, for some reason they looked different with an actual perscription lens. I have almost 10 pair of glasses and they are the only ones my eyes have trouble adjusting to. Im still bummed out about it. I still like the frames, I think Id be more into wearing them with a darker lens, Im just not sure if I want to throw more money at these glasses again.

Well, that vid exposed an awful dirty secret.
The eyeglass industry is a monopoly, owned & run by The Mob! It's disgusting to watch that guys' deadpan expression as he justified competitor freeze outs & takeovers.
Totally reprehensible, when people just want necessary prescription eyewear.
I've gone without rx sunglasses for years because prices are so absurd.

(Lasik surgery doesn't work for everyone. I asked about it)

I didn't think lasik lasted that long though, does it?

Lasik is a permanant fix, although your prescription has to be stable for a number of years before most places will perform it. The place I went to (TLC eyecare) offers free touchups for life if ever needed too, so even if my eyes did change again they'll re-correct it as long as I keep up with all my scheduled checkups. The only thing that could happen is the possibility of reading glasses because that is caused by the eye muscles not performing as well as they do when younger and nothing can help that, but I'll never have to worry about distance vision again.

My cousin had laser eye surgery years ago. His vision is slowly going bad again. I'm not so sure if I like the idea of touchups. I mean, won't there be permanent damage at some point?

glasses don't cost very much ...at the ....DOLLAR STORE....:headbang2....and, yes thats where I go...

Had my eyes polished Pitch Black-style for free, courtesy of the US NAVY... 20/200 to 20/15. The procedure was called PRK, takes longer to heal than Lasik, but it is more stable.

And yes, after surgery your vision will gradually get worse, but that happens whether or not you get surgery... Its called getting older. The lens gradually hardens, making it harder to control the "focus"... which is why almost everyone needs reading glasses eventually.
