Huge difference. The people on here aren't trying to sell me a fish. They have no reason to stretch the truth. When money and a boss is involved even the most honest LFS worker will lie for a sale if he thinks it is in his best interest in terms of keeping his job and keeping his boss happy.

It's funny how you feel I was talking directly to you....

You wouldn't know if an informative MFK'er was trying to sell you a fish, unless you asked... my whole point, its that you (meaning everyone) shouldn't judge.. but learn for themselves..

I didn't think you were talking directly to me. I was just responding to what you said. Thats why I quoted you.

I get your point, but mine is that if somebody on here tells someone else how big a fish gets, it is MUCH less likely to be driven by an attempt to sell a fish, as opposed to some minimum wage employee at a LFS. You must have good stores near you, because the ones around me don't know enough to legitimately help anyone. I stopped listening to them when they told my uncle to treat catfish for ich with copper. I like my fish to be alive, so I do my research elsewhere. If anyone wants to take a business's word that is in it only to make money, by all means do so. But it isn't a very good idea. It is, after all, a business.

A good example is if you take your car in for an oil change or something routine and they tell you that you need new tires. Your tires are a year old. Are you going to instantly say ok, or question the fact that your tires need replacing and the business may be trying to make a quick buck? This kind of thing happens all the time to people who don't know anything about cars. Its the exact same thing with fish. A small lie in the name of profit.

Ok, but I really don't that was a valid point in this thread.. your right, most responsible MFK'ers won't let a fish go unless they know that it has a proper environment to go into..

I have made it a point, that when I post, I keep in mind that there are many new members that read our (older members) posts.. So to say not listen to anything an LFS employee has to say is silly.. Yes, I agree go prepared.. at least a little.. as far as research... but there are many LFS workers giving up great info..

Yeah your right. I just don't have anyone reliable to listen too around me. I guess the best thing to say is that you need to take LFS advice with a grain of salt until you find one that you know that you can trust. I know they are out there, like George from shark aquarium amongst others that I have to travel too, but you just need to be careful with who you listen too. Its rare to find someone who cares about your interests when $ is involved, but they are out there.

I don't care if a LFS cares about me or not. I want them to care for their fish. It sickens me that people think fish are a lower form of life and do not deserve respect.

You consider fish to be equal to humans? That's a little ridiculous don't you think?

What separates us? A few lines of DNA. Unless you're thick enough to believe in god, what would justify your feeling of superiority? We all evolved to fit a niche. We are not inferior or superior to any other living thing on earth. We are all made up of the same stuff.

BTW I'm not a freak vegan or anything. I believe all life is equal, but we evolved as meat eaters, so that's what I am.

The only thing that is irresponsible is that you bought a fish that you knew nothing about. Theres no reason to restrict fish because people make bad decisions.

Exactly...not to mention how much money are they really making off of
Pacu's...here there are about 3 bucks. Seriously? It's ignorance as a noob until you learn to research.

By the way Red- humans are far from fins and flippers.

Whoa. You believe whatever makes you happy, but I think everyone would appreciate it if you kept religion out of it. If somebody believes in god does that make you superior to them? Because that's what I'm getting from your "thick" comment.

And no. I'm not some religious freak, nor do I believe that fish are equal to humans. To me it makes absolutely no sense, but whatever.
