Why do you keep catfish?

I keep catfish because I have this weird fascination with critters that have whiskers. As a general rule of thumb, if it's got whiskers then I want it. :)

I have cories, and a Bumblebee Jelly Cat. Althought he cories are active, they are a little skittish. My Jelly is a glutten, eversee a 4 inch fish eat a 5 inch silverside??? way cool.

Most Catfish are very mysterious in that they just come out when "no one is looking". So I like to spy on them when they like to prowl and scavenge for food. Very interesting to watch especially if they don't see you.I have two synodontis petrikola, and a RTCxTSN in my neighbors pond.[/QUOT

 Thats what i think too

i cought literally hundreds of catfish on my recent vacation. One thing that I noticed is that catfish are real survivors in the wild. I was fishing in a pond that was very muddy, very deep, and had very dense foiliage around the outside of it. Obviously I am probably the only person to fish it in over 50 years according to the owner. Out of the 80 bullheads that I caught there about 10% were either missing one or both eyes. It's obvious that they cannot use their eyes in the muddy water. Barely any light gets through the trees except during the winter anyway, and then it freezes over. Their eyes were not missing from wounds, but rather it looked natural as if they were born without them. These things were very aggressive too, as I caught one three times in the same day. There goes that wise tail about fish not eating after being stuck in the mouth by a hook. These fish are also slightly stunted too steep banks assure that no predators can hunt for them. Golden shiners, and yellow, and black bullheads are the only species of fish I have caught in there. There are also turtles and frogs, but not many. catching these amazing survivors makes me love my catfish that much more. Hope I didn't bore you guys lol.

I love my little cories just wish they'd breed. Have had eggs but alas no babies:( Also have a few bigger species but for some reason partial to the cories they're just so damn busy all the time and cool to watch !!!

cories are cool was thinking about setting up a smaller tank to keep some of the larger species of them. I love the way callicthys callicthys look. I've also read that it might take several breedings for you to have a sucessful brood. Usually only part of the eggs will be fertilized, and you can tell by looking at them to see if they have a black dot in them. I am no expert at breeding them though so you might want to ask someone else.

Awesome little fellas, fun to watch (when they show themselves)
