Why wider tanks are not more popular / common?

besides supply and demand... im no expect but i would guess handling the aquarium not right side up would void any warranty. with wider dimensions and turning it to the sides would put way more stress on the sides(depending on people's grips and weight of tank) and not everyone has commons sense when moving things.

I have a question. Pacu mom Do you ever plan on moving? Do you think the tank will add to the value of the house? I can take my tank apart and take it out of the house peaces by peace. even though it is 8 ft by 4 ft by 32 in tall

It absolutely does not add value to the house. Fish tanks NEVER add to the value of a house. The tank will never be moved. We have no plans to move. It would have been far easier to sell the house and buy a house that could accommodate the tank than do what we have been doing...a very large addition to our house. We happen to love where we live, so moving was never a consideration. The 1400 - 1500 sq ft we added to the house does add to the value of the house. My husband says he does have a chainsaw if we change our mind...

I agree with all the other statements, due to doorways and readily available fish, the demands less. Correct me if I'm wrong, but earlier it was mentioned as well. My dads friend who works at a glass plant said standard sheets of glass (and I believe acrylic too) come in 10ft sheets, so even number and 5' measurements are more profitable. I love wider tanks, its frustrating lol

With all the talk about wide tanks how does anybody explain my acrylic tank?
It is 6 feet long....30 inches tall....and 5 feet WIDE!!!

The only way I could explain it is damn awesome!!!

As for turning the tank sideways, that will work for tanks no taller than 24 inches...but how about the stand? It also has to be no taller than 24 inches or it has to be assembled on site.

Most people don't really want to go through all the trouble.

my goodness your door smust be like 27" wide...you must only have skinny people over. Many of my friends would not fit in your doors...

Front doors should be 36" so 35" would be the max you could squeeze through there, typically you take the door off and then move the tank/furniture in. If you want it in a bedroom/other room not in a main area/walkway then 30" is the typical door size for that, you can typically pull out the inner door jamb, take the door off the frame, and fit a 30" tank/furniture item through there. Some front doors have metal frames so you can't remove the inner jamb without removing the whole door frame. Which is still an option if you want a 10'x4'x3' tank, you're likely not gonna balk at the cost to replace a door frame or to remove one and put it back.

That may or may not be true. Most people who never had a tank that was 30" tall don't realize your hand will barely reach the bottom without putting your chin into the water. But I still think doorways has more to do with standard sizes more then Supply and Demand. Do you think tank companies would make tanks that you nobody could fit into there house. I think it has more to do with it then supply and demand. Were talking about standard sizes not which tank size sells the most.

Take a look at glasscages list of their standard tanks. Do you really think they discourage people from buying tanks that are too wide Im sure when you buy a wide tank from them you have to sign their "Wide tank, narrow doorway" disclaimer.

Seriously doesn't anyone remember anything from basic economics. Its all about supply and demand, companies aren't going to make anything if it doesn't sell. If people are stupid enough to buy something that doesn't fit, you can bet companies will jump all over supplying them with it. Just take alook at all the fish sold to people with ten gallon tanks

Talk about hard headed. Were talking about Standard sizes. Sizes all tank companies make as a standard sIze. Yes you can have any size tank made you want as wide and tall as you want. Were not talking about custom tanks. When you look at the dimensions of the bigger tank "Standard" sizes you will not find any tank where all three dimensions are over 31". WHY?
