Turning out really nice. Sounds like he's growing at a good rate. You know these guys are going to be great at the 12" mark and those fry from the two locations will be banging!!

That is awesome!I know you'll hook me up when/if it happens but I couldn't help but ask :D

I was also just wondering if your able to breed Location X with location Z what in the world would you call the fry ? :naughty: would you be able to name it yourself ? or create a poll on here asking peoples opinions for names ?

They will be possibly the Ultimate Blue Umbee ! I think they will have the perfect shape/outline , off the chain freckles and spangles !!! I am so stoked already and they don't even exist yet LOL :WHOA::screwy::naughty::headbang2

I am going to be making a for sale add tommorow finally to try getting rid of some of alot of the umbee I got from ya , ordering the shipping bags, bag buddies, ammo lock tonight :headbang2 then soon as i get rid of some fo them I will be able to finally start placing orders for some other lil projects I have been wanting to do :naughty:

There all Rio Mag. Umbee. There all the same fish just differnt collection points.

I have realised that they forever stretch their mouths out far more than any other fish i have kept, is that because their gob just keeps on growing?

I'm sorry but they're not from the rio mag at all:) totally different rivers and lakes. And yes the rio mags that are out there are from different collection points as you can see comparitable differences between them. But none of the umbees that Umbeeking has collected are from the rio mag:)

And Jason good question on what they would be called, but it will all come together when the time comes;)

Umbees are closely related to the basketmouth cichlid I believe.

Really? I thought they were all Rio Mag. There all Columbia Blue Umbee, same species. Nice but genetically there all the same right? Or we would have to assume unless proven otherwise. Maybe just different diets and minerals in the lakes and rivers they were collected from. Not a different Umbee. So they are Columbia Blue Umbee with good freckling. Very nice but a new name?

Yes and no. They were collected in Columbia so yes they're all Colombian blues. Basically same scenario with Dovii, wether the dovii were collected in hondurus, costa rica or nicaruagua they're all dovii just a color variant. Each collection point has something else to offer the fish such as diet, current, and much more giving each location their own special affect;) not only that Umbeeking has found a special variety that nobody has ever seen or even knows about!!:) just wait untill he makes that post, that will definitely change the era of umbees and re-write the books;)

Your right......but not a different name. Just like the Dovii. There all dovii different colors and bodies due to currents and the rest mentioned. I have no doubt Umbeking has put some great looking variants of Umbee out there but still a different name.....just a different variant and a good one at that. Sound like we are saying the same thing. I was just wondering about the other post about a different name and so forth. There the same fish. Ready to see his other Umbee!! Have you seen them yet?
