I am pretty close to Tampico, I may go down there on my next trip.

Any specifics on where you collected Mo, I know getting answers from anybody takes an act of Congress.

No worries, there will be other fish to scrutinize soon I'm sure.
Hey Scott, any word on the collection point of those Umbees?
Im just a hobbyist, as far as I know they were collected in Columbia, The person who was kind of enough to sell them to me told me that. I take more then just his word on this. If I wanted to know more specific information than that I would NOT have purchased the fish until I found out. I'm sorry but I really couldn't care less where they are from. With that being said, I TOTALLY 1000% understand why you would want to know. If you prefer, I will not refer to them as F0 until I can list an exact lake, river, stream, etc. Anyone who wants the stunning fry from them contact Jeff Rapps he will have them.

Funny what you can get out of a friendly chat eh! I, and others who have already purchased the Vontehillo already knew this.

Good job Mo, this should be a lesson to Chris and Co. that if you really want an answer, your best bet is to just ask kindly.

I guess your next question is "where is Naranja"?

Knew what? You knew where this was located in Mexico?

There's no "job" here. Like many here, I'm an avid cichlid enthusiast and was curious so I asked. If you KNEW as you suggest and didn't offer the information, I'm dismayed.

Regardless...everyone just step back and breath. Ira...poor form posting the PM. It really does nothing but fan flames and distract from the content.

Let's not try to do a pile on some of the other members. Asked and answered.

Reverse...I might even have the GPS coordinates. Regardless...should be easy to find. Close to Chairel.

I was just going to post something similar Mo. Did Don also mention that even he couldn't Google Vontihello when he got back. So it is a very small area if I'm not mistaken. Anyway I have 5 of these guys so I'm really excited about growing out a relatively new species of Carpinte.

It doesn't surprise me. It's not like you are mapping Rome. There's quite of few bends and turns in the road in Central America. The Carpinte we collected down from the sugar plant on our way to Tamasopo...I was just calling the "sugar creek" Carpinte. I think they were different enough and if they made it and bred and I had fry, that's how I would refer to them. You wouldn't google that either without GPS coordinates...which I did take.:D

It's all about the DRAMA Mo, we should know that by now. It is not about the fish...........

Thanks Chris for pursuing this until somebody FINALLY answered. I guess sharing information is not what the hobby is about anymore. It is more "look what I got"...........very sad, I miss the old days.

Thanks again Mo, I might make a detour on my next trip down there. BTW there are cichlids, carpintis I would suppose, in the Presa Cuchillo in the town I visit named China, Nuevo Leon. If I collect some of these I can name Carpintis China, right? But China is a real place, you can google it:WHOA:

I understand what your saying, and in no way was trying to blast you. Rather commend you for getting the information you were looking for. It was clear that dc and Ira had no intentions of putting that info on this forum, so why should I? To be honest I just found that info out this wednsday when I picked up 3 juvies from Ira. Otherwise I could have cared less where Vontehillo was. Hell if it were not for these threads I wouldn't even have asked. I think anyone truly interested in these fish could have gotten that info as you did.

I believe in the other closed thread a guy, Citrinellus, emailed and never heard back from DC.

Why would you withhold this information, just curious. Did it give you guys a small sense of power? Is it fun to know something and hold it in your little clan? Did you guys giggle together?

Very sad.....like kids at elementary school. "I know something and I will not tell.......nanny nanny boo boo! Now that the word is out, you guys pop up "Oh I knew this last Wednesday" Big man, I would have been ashamed to admit I knew and held back for childish reason. Good show guys.

WOW

A sad thread, I am done. I tried not to even get involved in this one. I do not even care anymore. You all have wild fish, you are all cool. Enjoy the hobby, for whatever you take from it, but make sure you do not give back, that would be too decent for you guys.

Good selling to Ira and your little mob.

Thanks for getting the story Mo. I knew there'd be one. Too bad it ruffled so many feathers along the way.

Ira, "I don't know" (weeks ago) would have sufficed. You have responsibilities as long as you use MFK as a platform for sales. If you or anyone else posts something up, you invite questions and comments. Similarly, if your opinion differs from other forum members it will likely be contested. You don't get to change that.

If we go back and revisit some of the comments that have been made it becomes clear; the agenda to slanderize and malign the individuals responsible for the release of certain 'new' or rare fish.

As for the umbees. Scott if you don't know the collection point I understand. I doubt anybody really does.
