At worst they could be a domestic strain of Carpinte.....

What does this mean - "a domestic strain of Carpinte?"

For the record I think any of us would ask this question regardless of the 'source'. I know I would. For instance, if you're trying to breed the fish you might like to know what the collection area was like (rocky, sandy, lots of wood, fast/slow current, temp, etc) so you can better simulate there environment. This is not a bashing of anyone 'thread'. In fact the people with questions have been very civil. Just enlighten us please.

I talked to Don this afternoon. Apparently he is off to Columbia. We had a very nice conversation about a variety of different topics. We did talk about the collection point of this Carpinte. Apparently it is very close to the collection point of sp." Chariel". We collected that area in Mexico. Don even knew where the small park was that we parked our cars. He mentioned that Vontihello is a small area just north of Chariel...near Tampico...which is in the Panuco basin. He mentioned that the collection point had slightly brackish water.

One thing that you have to remember when talking about these collection points is that the reference to location might only be an area collected and not necessarily a river or stream (which I thought this might have been). The Fredrichsthali called "yellow-head" has been referred to as "La Cieba" the town collected rather than the river name Rio Danto. So in this case the Carpinte was a local area of Tampico...a boro or whatever...called Vontihello. Don spoke to Rusty Wessel just the other day about the area as well...and I believe he plans on collecting there as well.

Don and I talked a great deal about the different variations of Carpinte. He said...and i agree...that if you just started collecting all over that area, each or most of all the Carpinte you would collect would be slightly different. It was a very enlightening conversation.

Hope this answers questions that are out there.

I was just going to post something similar Mo. Did Don also mention that even he couldn't Google Vontihello when he got back. So it is a very small area if I'm not mistaken. Anyway I have 5 of these guys so I'm really excited about growing out a relatively new species of Carpinte.

Vontehillo

Ira, do you have any info on the collection of this fish? DC hasn't responded to my emails or those of others.

The lack of an answer to the "where is Vontehillo" question is painting you unfavorably. As a seller on MFK, it would seem you'd want to get out in front of this issue. Regardless if you want to do that or not, you have an ethical responsibility to make an effort to explain your products, especially those that you sell at a premium.

If you don't have any information, that's fine, but at least let me know you're making an effort to get it. Many of us are interested in purchasing fish, but the secrecy regarding collection sites is not making it easy to trust you as a seller.

Chris please stop sending pms I have no desire to speak to you , the above info has been forwarded to people who actually purchased the fish as driftwood can assure you. I will never respond to you on this forum or elsewhere. Keep sending DCT's feb price list to my customers, classy move. Find someone who has done business with me who agrees with you if you can. The behind the scenes move you make are truly unscrupulous, again please stop contacting me I dont want to have anything to do with you.

Funny what you can get out of a friendly chat eh! I, and others who have already purchased the Vontehillo already knew this.

Good job Mo, this should be a lesson to Chris and Co. that if you really want an answer, your best bet is to just ask kindly.

I guess your next question is "where is Naranja"?

There you go, now we all know where it is.

Would have been easier to share the information than have to ask Mo to contact Don in Columbia.

Good show Mo.
