There are no numbers given. The only info is that selective breeding is ongoing with emphasis on unusual morphs. So, I would hazard a guess that the numbers aren't high enough to support the standard silver aro market.
The business ideology has always been; silvers from S. America=wild-caught (stripped from adults caught for food). silvers from Asia=growouts.

Peacockbass - I suppose you wouldnt slam Oddball with some rude comments because he has no numbers to back this up ? THis is the part where you say, His comments hold no weight?

Whoa....... :nilly: i skimmed through all eleven pages.......... hopefully i can clear thing up..........

Tigs are not captive bred....... if so they would would cost around the same as TSN..... price has dropped "online" because sellers like to whore it out.........

As for Silver Arows......... here in the States, Northern Southern US, plus europe they originally come from the wild....... there are two sizes available.......

1- babies (seasonal) sometimes with yokesack still attached......

2- 4.5-8" Juvi from "Asia farms"......... here is where the confusion is from......... these fish are not "captive" but "grown out" from the babies........

Now you ask why the hell and how the hell would it be practical for a fish to be shipped from SA to US to Asia and back to the US or EU? Well its because Labor and more importantly food is cheaper in Asia....... you see baby silvers don't take to pellets very well........ they are a predator...... in asia the food is practically free..... they have a type of "red worm" that are dug up by the billions and fed to these arows until they are large enough to fetch "more" money..... yet still cheaper than getting "wild" ones of similar size.......

Many LFS or even importers assume these fish are "Captive" but no other wise the 4" sizes would be available year round........ for example right now....... all SA i import out of asia come in 6" plus..... all the babies from last year have out grown the smaller size.........

ok i'm going to confuse you guys even more now....... what i was tell Del was that right now is a interesting time in the Silver Arow market........ "China" has a "Captive Breeding" program........ but chances are we would not see them here in the states for several years due to the cost....... so most of the CB arows are digested in Asia.... most not even leaving "China"......... SA exporters are loosing more and more of the Silver arow market each year.

hope you guys can understand my babble........... i got a headache and not in the mood to formulate my delivery........ LOL

I have no need.

He is not trying suggesting a change in the market. You and others ARE.

Smug reply. All this and you never ever provided an ounce of FACT. The importers did.
So where does that place you , The titan of the fish forum ?

Oddballer- Thanks for the clarification. I always see a big amount of silvers ordered from asia
and i also see the list every now and then. So most of the silvers are wild caught, but farm raised in asia.

It is true. China grows out the hatchling silver aros that are imported from SA. These silvers when reaching a certain size are then re exported elsewhere.
