Wild kelberi so close I can just smell them!

I had one kel from his second batch that really was timid,it would stay behind the plants most of the time.Then I was able to get a nice one from Sharkaquarium this past July and it is much more outgoing and I've gotten it to eat cut up smelt.Kelberi are like the Datnoids of Cichla but they are my favorites.

i was around when Dmack's azuls were little.LOL.
i just didnt focus on cichla that much,and up til this year,never had anything but farm hybrids or tems.

is it true many are struggling to train their wc kelberi to eat prepared food and pellets?

I have a 3rd batcher. I got him from a friend when he was maybe 4 inches. When I decided to try and convert him, it took only a week to get him on shrimp. Mine isn't shy at all either.

The one I had from the 2nd batch was the same. Idk why. But I got some from the 3rd batch and they are not shy at all. Always following me around the tank.

I got a few from a friend, I'm not sure about what batch but they are almost two different fish. One destroys everything thrown into the tank, except pellets, still havnt had that success, and the other only takes feeders it's interesting

my kels aren't shy either. come right up to the tank when I'm near. In terms of feeding they are much more hesitant than monos - strike first think later. The kels tend to take a good look before trying.

got them to accept dried shrimp from feeder only diet. i alternate feedings on these two foods. haven't tried in earnest but they dont seem to accept pellets, they'll strike but spit it out. will introducing try market shrimp next.

Well of course brother when we talk cichla were talking about YOUR OWN EXPERINCE! BUT I ALREADY KNEW YOU WERE an old Young guy! LOLOLOL I have seen more fish in your tank then any of my LFS! Channa = The Man ( or The Kid). Do you still have any kelberi left? I know you have kept every fish under the sun at one point or another!

there are so many fish out there yet to be had.
im a simply a beginner in this hobby.
bro,im envious of many guys on this board who had the lucky chance to obtain fish i cannot,who have the means to have monster sized tanks.
im a novice.

yeah,i still have one of those "kelberi".
still no fin spangles though...
true kelberi is what i still desire!
