OMFG. ROFL. that's great. I wonder what they'd say??

My favorite pass time while out running errands is to stop into walmart, petsmart, etc and :swear: about the moldy-headed bettas. I can't stand walking past and seeing half of 'em moldy, and a quarter dead, and the rest distinctly unhappy. I wouldn't be surprised to stop in walmart and see one with all of the water evaporated.... (i don't buy anything, just waste employee's time :swear:ing about the fish care.)
same thing i do LOL i try to correct there info ( from what i learned here ) and i also ask the custemers what they have as in tanks b4 they even have a chance to look at the fish and then i tell them what is suitable for there tank.

for a betta i always go with a 5 g tank with a few fake plants and a little gravel wait for it to cycle and then throw the betta in and be sure to keep a heater

they like warm, shallow water
and they don't like flowing water

Thanks for the advice! :) 5g should be a min I realise that too... even then I think some don't adjust well to a 5g and need at least a 10g! I actually found a really old fish keeping guide not long ago, and it said 10g min for betta!
... I guess the 1g thing is just a marketing thing...

Tonights advice:

1. Don't cycle your SW tank with damsels. They get mean, you'll want them out and you'll have to tear down the whole tank to get them out.

2. Don't cycle with clownfish, they'll die and you're out $30 a piece

3. Start slow. Death rate is high during cycling.

4. Put some live rock in the tank to help the cycling process.

Result:

Customer buys 7 damsels and a pair of clownfish, and no live rock.

It is always sad when customers can not take the advice, and in most cases, the warnings of LFS employees. I run the fish room at an LFS and I do all I can to protect my fish from morons but there is always that one idiot who thinks they know all. I have been known to refuse to sell fish to people. I try to be as kind as I can while still explaining the potential for chaos that is present in any foolish attempt. My manager is always supportive of my choices and I am lucky to have that but I know that people can really suck sometimes. I had a guy come in the other day who wanted to put 3 convicts with 3 malawi africans. I explained that not only are they from 2 different continents, but they have completely different requirements and tempers. He came back yesterday wanting to know why his convicts were missing. I had come out and told him that I would not cover the fish if anything went wrong and he still wanted his money back. Oh well dingbat. I hope that your love of fish will keep you sane and I hope that you stay with it if you can. The regular customers can make it all worth it. The ones who really need and want your help will value your dedication too. Good luck my friend and fellow LFS worker.

saw two customers talking.
One guy was looking at getting an oscar for his 40 gallon with 20 OTHER fish.
The other customer walkes up to him and says ''how bigs your tank? Oscarsget big, and FAST'' so, i'm thinking. good. an actual informed customer. Then, that idea goes out the window when he says ''well, it probibly won't get very big in your tank, and if it does, just throw it in the lake''
