wobbly stand and over a hair

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don't worry, after your friend cuts off those legs the bottom frame will distribute weight more evenly across the tiles so they shouldn't crack. 2 sets of supports in the middle is perfectly fine for a 180, and most store bought stands are made from 1x3's so 2x4's are more than enough (and with 3 in each corner they'll be closer to using 4x4s anyways). If u want to be extra safe while you're at it u could add diagonal supports, but its not really necessary with adequate cross bracing enclosing each set of vertical supports. Just try not to stress out about it, the only way the current design will fail before tomorrow is if there was a major earthquake or someone tackles it from the side, and once u make those modifications it will be just as overbuilt as every other joey style stand ;)

I am gonna do it all, it will happen Saturday, tomorrow we are gonna go grab some 2x4 for a bit of cross bracing in an X on the sides.

Hello; Good luck!!!! As you have discovered the advice on these forums can cover a wide range. With a bit more luck the stand will hold long enough for you to get it strengthened. From the pictures the weight is already going directly from the top plywood sheet down thru the legs to the floor. Such 2x4 studs have good compression strength and as mentioned by others, as long as the tank does not rack from side to side you will likely be ok.
It held with the tank full and you stated that you were going to remove some water.

there is no need to get 2x6's 2x4 are plenty strong. good luck with the new build and sorry you had to tear it down

Hello; The stand indeed appears to be much more solid and less likely to rack from the sides. Even of more importance, the bathtub poster seems to be les blocked.

Looks solid from what I can see..

yes the girl friend noted you could see it better, ;( I was halfway scared yall was gonna say it was still screwed
