Great that you're doing research, just please remember that you can't believe everything you read. Most people are honestly trying to be helpful, but there's no particular knowledge or experience level required to post here. If something seems fishy, it usually is.

Sorry to hear about your camera -- that's terrible! Hope you can get a new one soon.

does anyone have a red lightbulb in their tank to see their black ghost knife at night? does it work? i got one yesterday and put it in and it can still tell theres a light on. is there a certain kind that i should use? i used a 25watt tubular aquarium lamp, highlights is the brand name.

Alternitively you could try wearing night vision goggles LOL.

obviously your fish cant see light because from memory they are blind. i would say that the red light is still being picked up by his sensitive receptors :).

just make sure he eats well. i had 2 but one of them starved himself to death the poor bugger....

:welcome:to MFK.Congrats on your BKG. My BKG comes out during feeding, itl skim the surface eating left over aro sticks

I think your 25-watt bulb gives off too much light. You want something with MUCH less wattage.

I would suggest using a micro-LED light. I have these: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+15551&pcatid=15551

You buy the hub and then you can attach up to 3 lights. The lights are fully submersible, but the hub is not! The hinged attachment helps you make different configurations with the lights. I like to use mine inside the hood or on the outside of the tank so I can move them around more easily. They sell these at Petsmart and other chain stores.

These also create a nice effect if you like bubbles:

Hope that helps -- enjoy your BGK!

After my 1st bgk died (whom I can handfed) and someone sold me his bgk. I am currently having difficulty handfeeding this guy. We both have the same problem, but maybe someday I can handfeed it. Patience dude.
