woohoo my first black ghost knife...and my first post

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't have one my self, but I think they are awesome fish!! Can't wait to see pics. As far as the red light, maybe get a flashlight with a red lens...that what I do for my SW tank to see all the nighttime critters. When the lights go out...I come in with it! ;)

i've finally taken a few pics, not great ones, but pics nontheless. turns out taking a picture of a black fish in a tank with black sand and a black pvc tube as a cave is tricky. hehe. lives up to the ghost name tho.

its the 2 white streaks in the 3rd pic. crappy picture i know, i just liked it cuz it looks like a ghost.

does anyone have tankmates with their bgk and does your bgk "lay down" with it? i have a guittarita in with my bgk and for a while was worried about the bgks reputation for eating eyeballs. i've seen it chase the guittarita around and when it seems it has it cornered it just flops down and lays on top or beside it for a second or two. i've seen a pic of a bgk and a bichir lookin cuddley. does anyone elses bgk do that?

Is he doing good what tank is he in and welcome to ]V[FK

thanks for the welcome redtailcatfish101. this site (as well as my girlfriend) have sparked a greater addiction than any drug i might or might not have tried. hehe. i was working on my crazy cat lady status but i might switch it up to crazy fish lady. i seem to have a thing for the catfish tho so it all works out in the end.
my bgk is in a 10 gallon for now, i'm moving in a month and setting up a bigger tank as soon as i move. i'm itchin to set it up now but it'll just be cycled in time for me to empty it and move it so i'll be patient and wait til after the move.

Sometimes my pair of rope fish will swim under the BGK, it looks like they're getting a "massage" from its fins. BGK (about 9") doesn't really like the catfish in its cave but doesn't bother them otherwise. Other fish are fast swimmers that generally stay in the upper/middle tank and mostly avoid BGK. It doesn't actively chase any fish.

cool I just got one too, he's about 3 inches. my jardini is about 5 inches, i hiope he doesn't decide to eat the ghost knife when he gets bigger! do the ghost knifes ever actually find food? i had to manually put freeze dried bloodworms in his tube, and it was cool seeing him suck it up with his tiny mouth. but, i also got sinking granulars that the guy at the store said the fish would eat. so far, the granulars hit the ground and blend in with the rocks. will he ever find them or will my pleco get to them first?
