World record Gold saum?`

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Holy bejesus, what a beast. What's his temperment like? What size tank is he in? And we'd love more pics whenever you get around to it.

If you weren't HrHagel, I'd say I think you're misjudging and would ask to see it next to a tape measure. What a Monster you have there. I had one for eight years and it was only 10" when it passed. That one is like the Yao Ming of the GT world lol. Congrats, I think you have the biggest one on MFK.

I have no doubt in my mind that this guy is 15"+, since this Argentea is most likely 13" (measured at 11" 1 year ago)

There is no doubt from the picture that this GT is HUGE. But if this GT really is as long as you claim, catch him, take him out and take a pictrue beside a tape measure and demonstrate his length.........otherwise it is just somebody's guesstimate which is actually, pretty meaningless. One can see in the picture that he is a bigger and heavier fish then the Argentea......but that he is any longer then the Argentea, that is not appaerant at all from the picture.

For the last few years I measure all my fish once a year and in the past, for the last dozen years or so, measured all my fish when they died. So I have a pretty good idea on the lengths of fish and have lots to compare to .....yet I am still sometimes suprised; even out to lunch on some of my guesstimates, when i actually put the tape to a fish. There is always a tendancy to overestimate the length of large fish and underestimate the length of small fish.

and taking a fish out of the tank for an exact measuring is a ridiculously stupid idea.It looks huge and that is close enough for me.

I've had a larger one...I'll post some photos in a couple hours. I highly, highly doubt that fish is 15". Measure it!

You opened up a can of worms with this one. It looks pretty big to me. Hopefully we'll see some better pics of it soon. The temporary green water makes your tank look like an ocean scene.

I definatly agree that an eyeball measurement is pretty pointless. I too have definatly miss judged sizes of fish before, but the measurement of the Argentea from a full year ago where it has definatly put on size, puts the saum in perspective.

From the photo you can see that the saum isn't stretched out from a side angle, and is deeper in the tank than the argentea, but still appears longer.

I know i definatly opened the door for a lot of critisism which im fine with, and its not like im aiming to get this fish in the world record book, i have just never seen any GT thats of this size before, and i have seen ALOT both in real life, and searched a whole bunch on the web.

He's definatly agressive, but not out to kill anyone, just asserting his dominance it seems.

water is still as green, and i really dont want his wounds to get any infections, so ill let the general tonic and salt treatment work before i do a waterchange.

But as soon as the tank is clear, a vid will be posted, or pics.
