worlds largest freshwater fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nearly nine feet long (2.7 meters) and as big as a grizzly bear, a huge catfish caught in northern Thailand may be the largest freshwater fish ever recorded. Caught last month (May 1) in the Mekong River, a team of fishermen struggled for more than an hour to haul the creature in. It tipped the scales at 646 pounds (293 kilograms).

that goes with the pic i put up an forgot to mention it.

Hi,OK have all you decided WHAT IS THE BIGGEST,TOTALLY FRESHWATER FISH,IN LENGHT AND WEIGHT?
what does totally mean? that it can live totally in freshwater all its life?
or that it can only live freshwater and cant go it salt or brackish?

if so thats stupid that like saying you cant be the best basketball player because you play soccer too.

also its even more stupid because all fish can tolerate a small amount of salt in there water.

I vote beluga or keluga sturgeon! one of them is is the winner.

Hi,it means exactly what it says, thats why a sturgeon would be excluded in this issue, get the hold of it or not?

a sturgeon can be kept in a extremely large fresh pond for its life. so they qualify.
sturgeons are anadromus, that means they can live in either salt or fresh. but breed in fresh. it isnt necessary for them to live in saltwater as adults.

you will also note many websites name the beluga sturgeon as the largest freshwater fish in the world.

do you understand?
