Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine isn't as bad as some of these... but when i first got my 200G and was setting it up, the hose i used to feed water back out of my tank into a pipe (normally for washer's to feed water out) was too large causing the flow rate to be too strong and causing a back flood which i didn't notice for about 15 min... needless to say floor was quite wet and i only just moved into my new flat with real hard wood floors :S

When I first got into the aquariums, was about 12, was moving a filled 10 gallon from the stand to dresser for some reason, started to get heavy with all the water, rocks, etc, so I rested the tank on the corner of my wood bed, well I had the corner of the bed on the bottom middle of the tank, then i let the weight of the tank off my arms for a few and then all of a sudden the bottom fell out, all over me, all over the carpet, glass everywhere, fish flopping, etc, big ole mess to clean. :WHOA:

well mine is i had a 55 gallon with two 5 inch oscar in it. ithrew in a goldfish. the oscars cracked the tank so had to get rid of the oscars and get a new tank

This Morning my year old daughter slapped my 55g tank and spooked one of my 4" piranha and he jumped clear out of the tank, off the wall, and into the middle of my living room. so she is chasing him and he is flopping around chomping and ended up in a central air vent, and made it through about 25 feet of piping. I got a bucket and a knife and found the only pipe in my basement moving on its own and cut him free. well he is currently swimming, but a little shaken up, and im skeptical he will survive with the other 3 eating anything that shows weakness. guess we will see after work. (PS just bought glass tank covers)

well i think my accidents are more new to aquaria accidents than anything, lets see i've had goldfish with dropsy so bad it died on the transfer to the hospital tank, a goldfish with septicemia (no spellcheck) that lasted about a year until it got really sick and died i bought the fish with it and thought the red in the tail was cool, its not. methel blue for ick in main tank, never good, ph drops from 7.5 to 4 in 2 days for over 2 weeks lost best looking ryukin ever (so mad), overfilling tank during water changes i think 4 times now, i was playing videogames all 4 times, algae blooms for 3 months because of improper lighting, and nitrite and ammonia spikes from overfeeding and under cleaning of goldfish tank. i think thats it for now, for now.

when i was starting my first fresh tank i put in fish at what i thought was the time...caused a huge ammonia spike and got it down in about 3 months...

ehh just started my tank a 8 days ago.. let it run for 2 days.. 7.6 ph . one fish died but thats bc he came with eyecloud or the white fungus over the fish's eyes. and my worst mistake is because of my mom.. she put a full 10gallon over a glass table and midnight it cracked went through the glass and broke the tank.. spilling water on the hardwood and going into the basement.yippee

I had a 220g tank crack in half, while in the process of setting up the tank, with like 150 gallons of water in it.

the worst part is that it busted the night b4 my bday, when all my guest were arriving.

I had a 55g on the bedroom dresser. My wife called me at work and was screaming for me to get home. She never screams. As I live a couple miles from work I got there fast and found that about a foot long section of the bottom seam blew and had a wonderful waterfall coming from it. The wife had every bucket and towel already at work. 3 good things that came out of it? My buddy took the tank for his snake, my lfs gave me $300. credit for some fish I wasn't wild about and, after pulling up the pink carpet we found we have beautiful hardwood floors.

My first tank was a 75g that I got with my husband (then boyfriend). Tank ended up with some kind of disease, we had to treat it... SO - like good people we took the carbon out of the filters, and dosed the tank. My husband suggested we "save" the carbon, put it in a zip lock bag and toss it in the fridge - so that when we were done dosing we would have it to put back in the filter. Like an IDIOT I said "ok sure, why not". 3 days later, carbon goes back in the tank - 12 hours later ALL my plecos ($450 worth of fish) are floating and dead and all fish are gasping for breath and bleeding.... In our fridge, good bacteria on carbon packet died, replaced with bad bacteria - which when placed in the tank killed off all the bacteria causing a HUGE ammonia spike, to the point where all my fish were BLEEDING. My BGK's tail was even bleeding.... :(

2nd one, was, again with the husband. In November (winter) we went to visit his family out of town. Without my knowledge, he turned the heat in our apartment off (since we were going to be gone)... the single heater in the 75g (same 75g) couldn't keep up - we got back, temp. was at 62 degrees and all fish are so cold they are WHITE and fins are shredded. No casualties though...
