Worst tank accident?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My dog (small 15lb mutt) chewed on the return hose on one of my Fluval 404's...Just a little pin hole...left to squirt water out for several hours. I noticed something was up when I was missing about 2" of water out of my 100gal. The water wasn't missing for long. I found it on the dining room floor...

I have to say that with me setting up my first big tank, (big for me at least), reading all these horror stories about tanks breaking is making me re-think the location I was about to set mine up in! We're in a 1 level Ranch styly with a full basement. And I just realized that tha electrical box is directly underneath where the aquarium is! I may need to re-think that one...

So far my only screw up was forgetting to turn the heater back ON after doing a water change in my 29g. Water temp went from 84f to 56f before I noticed it and turned the heater back on! African Cichlids were completely fine for a week, then the largest of the two died overnight. Needless to say I have a electric thermometer with an ALARM on it coming!

But after reading this I'm also going to order one of the 'leak monitors' you can put under your water heaters in the house to notify you if there's a leak to put in my stand next to the wet/dry tank!!!

I've just read the past three posts, and now I'm afraid to go to sleep :(

I'm also feeling really anxious about reading all the rest of the stories...superstitious much?

I started reading the first few posts and thought to myself, "Ya know, you REALLY shouldn't be reading this." But it's like a train wreck! I just couldn't stop!

I think just for good measure I'm going to call a friend over to help me move it outside so I can fill it up outside first, JUST do double check before I fill it up full inside!!!

When I was little was riding tricycles in basement with freind. Friend put head threw 20 Gal Long and pulled out without cutting head. True story. Tank was empty at time.

Fortunately nothing too bad has happened yet. My worst was a 10 gallon cracking due to a heater against the glass. I caught it after only about 1 gallon had spilled out and luckily there was only one fish in it at the time.

Hopefully I didn't jinx myself.

Buying four common goldfish for a 20 gallon high...
