Would you let a total stranger into your home?

One time I invaded a home

I was in my trench coat, had my fedora and shades on. knocked on the door, a pretty girl answered and I told her I was selling cookies to put homeless kids thru school. I had bought some cookies from a gas station before going to her house. she was skeptical but I convinced her by showing her random pictures of raggedy looking kids I printed off the internet.

as soon as she handed me the money I grabbed her by the wrist and she screamed. I walk in and throw her to the floor. I had nothing on under the trench coat as she can now see and realize what my intentions are. I dragged her to her bedroom kicking and screaming. I smacked her around a little bit and I'm afraid I can't say anymore.

it was my own house though. that was just my wife and I role-playing. yea, that's how I get down

 this is too funny

Do you have to tell us everything....? lol

No chance in hell. If they persisted, my banned subject to talk about on MFK would ensure that they executed a curt about face and forward march.

Edit-

There's this, too.

Oh lord, I actually read the thread now. So serious lol.

I wouldn't let some random person off of the street into my house without a damn good reason. Someone from the city who is at my house would have notified me beforehand, they're really good about that. A contractor I obviously arranged to be there. A person who walks up, knocks on the door and asks to come in and look around? I'm probably going to detain them and call the cops. I'm military police and that's just a bit TOO suspicious for my tastes. Simply put, that sounds like probing.

Most people who knock on my door are too scared to come in. The idiotic barking of my dogs is more than enough to make someone think twice. I did dogsport with my big male, part of which was biting a bite sleeve. When I was stationed in Ft Sill, OK I lived off post literally a quarter mile from the low income subsidized housing. THE number one crime hot spot in Lawton. I also lived right across the street from a defunct elementary school with a huge open field.

The dog, my friend and I would go out in that big field and do off leash obedience and bite work in the big open field as the hooligans at the low income housing watched. I would also walk the dog, off leash, right in front of the low income housing.

Actually, here's a picture taken right after a training session. You can see the projects in the background:

Not once did I have an issue in the two years I lived there. Within a week of my moving out, the landlord told me the house was broken into.

For what its worth, most of the kids in the low income housing were good kids. There were only a few teenage buttheads peddling dope and stealing tvs and whatnot to pay for it.

But I've digressed terribly. I think I'm just rambling now. 2am posts do cause that to happen.

Anyhoo, no I wouldn't open the door. No one gets in to see the wizard! Not no one, not no how!

Learned three things from this thread.
1. The reason why so much of the civilised world regards us as having a "Wild West" mentality.
2. That a disproportionate number of MFKers are concentrated in the worst areas of the country.
3. That if a number of them downsized their collections they could afford to move to better neighborhoods showing just how expensive the hobby is and the misplaced sense of priority some seem to have.

Ok that was really four things. That being said, I would not just let any random person in off the street to look around, but I haven't found many that are willing to face the pack of hellhounds either.

1. I find the "wild west" comment inaccurate. There's a difference between being pro-active/safety minded, and shooting a man for insulting your horse.
2. Crime happens everywhere, no matter what part of the country.
3. If your collection is large enough that the cost could bump you up to a better neighborhood, then you've made a conscious decision about your hobby and that's your business. Selling my entire collection wouldn't pay for a decent used car.

If I don't know someone, and am not expecting anyone (craigslist pickup, assessor, utility work), they don't get in without a legitimate reason and credentials checked. If my son is home with me, doubly so. Religious whackos rarely ever even stop at my house anymore.

Needing a weapon in hand to answer the door does make that statement very accurate. The other option is there are a large number of people on here who are paranoid, delusional or pathological liars.
