I’m not a Xingu Guy, so I can’t be much help on this one. I haven’t seen any wild Xingu being sold lately. Lots of times fish will be sold as wild caught, F1,F2. F1 means first captive spawn, F2 second captive breed spawn ect. From my understanding Most of the fish we will see In the hobby will be captive breed from Farms. Some of the wild traits will be lost once breed with other farmed fish, in turn developing less attractive traits.

Yup, I have Xingu III I believe myselfm, my friend has offered me a less spotty one which makes me think Xingu I or Xingu II, I know the name often comes from catch locations, and many are captive bred but often the differences are still noticable, I know one difference is spottyness, which is very visible in my Xingu. I still think interbreeding/ the Xingu we are seeing through F1,2,3, etc are still showing traits as Xingu river fish are often hard to get into other countries or even away from the Xingu river I believe. So the specimen I have may be Wc or new good generation like F1,2, etc not really sure, but interesting to know the differences regardless of if I can get one or not.

Xingu I,II,III are terms used for the crenicichla xingu not cichla. I highly doubht any wilds are still making it into the hobby, all the ones we see today are probably bred and brought in from Asia. Correct terms would be as stated by TheWolfman TheWolfman . (F1,F2,F3 etc..two wild fish breed in captivity making the fry F1, those f1 breeding makes their offspring F2 and so on) unless you get them from Michael bottner or another highly reputable source I wouldnt hold my breath on them even being even F1,2 or 3. There’s a grow off thread between kendragon kendragon hulon and highcityridah you can find by searching the site if you wanna see f1s...this was back in 2008-2009 I believe.

Hi thank you for the reply, I've heard of people saying my bass is Xingu III or theirs is Xingu II for example which has confused me, multiple people have said Xingu followed by a number in fact, The tagged accounts most recent posts are from the weekend which means searching back to 2008-2009 (Im amazed how you all remember threads and their dates btw) will take a looooooooong time, unless there is a quick way to search?

I also noticed you mentioned reputable breeders such as Michael, where is he located and what generation is he breeding? F1? obviously I know as F1 is bred to F1 to make F2, etc etc the patterns, genetics, bloodline, etc all weaken making for worse fish. So it would be interesting to know a location & what generation(s) are being bred.
