i just realized i forgot the pic.... my daughter is blocking the 40breeder, but you can still see it complete(before i changed the lights out to led's). the pic with me behind it was before i put the trim on it. that is a 125gal stand, i am just huge, 6'5 and 320lbs, i hate how all the fish i catch look so small even if they are massive. ex. the fish in my avatar was 52".

Nice setup. The stand looks really nice. Cute kid too, BTW.

Not sure if everyone on here has already seen this, but here's a piece that Animal Planet did on JohnPTC's 10,000G tank:

http://animal.discovery.com/tv-show...eos/most-outrageous-largest-home-aquarium.htm

Construction cost of the tank: $100,000
Monthly costs: $2,000

John spends $24,000 per year just to run/maintain this setup. I personally think he "accidentally" underestimated the monthly cost to run the tank...maybe because his wife was present during filming? :grinyes: Anyways, this is why I am skeptical when I see people growing these monster fish out with the idea of upgrading when the time comes. To do it right costs a lot of money.

I am posting this information not to insinuate anything, but to share what one should expect to spend on a 10,000G tank.

That's a cool vid, the arapaima is pretty...Question: isn't Arapaimag's tank bigger than that, like in the 20,000 range? They said his was the world's largest home aquarium, were they just saying that or has that been officially declared? Just wonderin....

ArapaimaGs big tank is 52,000 gallons. I believe he also has a "smaller tank" that is 15,000 gallons. I thought the same thing when I heard him say that his was the largest private aquarium- his is an epic tank, but it's not even close to being the biggest.

On the show "Million Dollar Rooms" on HGTV they did a piece on this guy in NJ that has a 15,000G saltwater tank full of huge (4') striped bass. This tank is gorgeous. He said it cost him $1M to build. The acrylic panels are 4" thick, floor to ceiling. They said the filtration room cost him a couple hundred thousand, but I was bummed out that they never showed it; the filtration is my favorite part.

Here are a few pix of the tank; on the show they said the guy caught those stripers himself.

:WHOA: That's incredible! Four inches...Wow. I thought the two inches on the other one was a thick slice of acrylic!

I wonder how much he pays to maintain that thing! I'd go reef if I had that kind of money laying around! lol

I saw that show! tank is amazing! My only complaint is the clip was too short. He should have got the whole 1/2 hr.

Yeah, the piece on the tank was definitely too short. I was disappointed when they moved on to the next segment without showing any of his filtration or back rooms. If you are interested, check out this article that has some pix and details...apparenty the big tank is just the tip of the iceberg. He has all sorts of goodies behind the scenes: http://www.livinginmedia.com/article/print.php?id=977

I don't remember if they mentioned what he pays for maintenance.

What's really crazy is the huge tanks at the Georgia aquarium, Dubai Aquarium and Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan all have acrylic viewing panels that are 24"+ thick. Those panels must have cost a fortune- they are as thick or thicker than most tanks are wide.
