Is that what I said? What do you actually know about a GATF to come to such conclusions? Without the one who does the same thing over and over and expecting different result, there would be no result to offer to the one who does nothing but just looking for information. "Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." It's just a hobby, meant to be enjoy. There's no need to feel insecure....

I know they grow too large and require much more space than 99.9% of the people buying them are able to provide. But if you are wondering if I've ever killed, errr, kept one, no I have not. I know that you have. Bravo.

you see this is the problem with people. you feel that these fish belong in public aquaria. i agree that the average 15 year old on this site cant handel any of these fish. i am not your average 15 year old i have been keeping fish longer then they have been alive. look through 100% of my threads have i ever had a pima? no. i know they grow faster then i have space for currently. more math for everyone. gatf grow stupid slow, though i had larger growth then most. there is a 6year old "2 foot" gatf on here. how long would that take to get a 4' fish? i CAN house 3 2' fish right now in fact i have several. even if you try to dig up my big cat threads and throw them in my face. when i got them i lived in a house, planned on a stock tank in the basement for them. brotherinlaw lost the house so i couldnt do that. so what did i do? oh ya i found them each a 600 gal + to go into. i know how much it take to heat a large body of water. why do you assume these ponds will be outside or in a cement garage? my pima pond will be in a set up simmilar to arapimags. and i will have an addition i build on my house that i build. just because some people dont know how to do it doesnt mean everyone cant. i will be costly, but you dont know a thing about me yet you try to judge me and bring up judgement. now who is being a child? think about the few that can do it then, add my name to that list. if i remember right johnptc built his big tank after he got the fish, sound familiar? his tank is also in a shop if i remember right and there is not much insulation. cali is not 80f all year long. a properly insulated water tight room, with an ambiant temp of 80f will not need much to heat that water if at all. i will have olypic pool heaters on my pond, but that is because i have not done research right? think what you want but in the end i will have my fish and you will see them in the pond that will be prebuilt and then i want you to come to it and post in it that i am a fool for going the distance and pushing the boundry of modern fish keeping. outside of this site there people that have never even seen a 125gal and think it is huge. you just sound retarted when you say a 700gal+ is not big enough for an aro. unless the tank is long, tall and 2' wide.

Looking forward to seeing pix of this monster setup. Sounds like it's going to be nice. Once it's built, as long as it's at least 10,000 gallons, has proper filtration and proper heating, I will buy you an Arapaima to put in it. No joke- you have my word.

Scott, I'll second that I saw it. lol.

That's a hefty statement, sir. Apparently you haven't learned one particular thing about Scott from all of his "dead fish threads." If he wants it, hell and high water can't get in his way. Most of the time, his wife can't even get in his way. He'll do it and deal with the ***** fit. Just a fair warning. And a challenge is as good as done. I realize we're not talking a normal tank here, but still, you gotta admire the guy's determination. Its all I've been hearing about for two years now! lol. "One day, when I have my house...."

You could make it simple by saying that you know nothing. You're insecured, yet arrogant. You are a cheaper version of Darius, or at best, you two are "brothers from diffferent mothers!" You collected information, then turn around to talk to others like you know everything, and they know nothing. You like to claim you're better, criticize others (but you're not here to pick a fight, right?) The comment sbuse made about goldfish must hurt your feeling really bad! You talk about growing fish to adulthood or keeping them for life, but you used goldfish to cycle your tank, and then discarded them "to a good home!" No wonder you twisted words and tried so hard to make a point that there's difference between goldfish and other fish. You need to do research or fact check, before you spewed your misinformation about JohnPTC tank just to talk down others. You said that I can't see past my nose, but from your other post about how bad tap water if it's not treated with chemical, you can't think past the chemical that you consumed. You talked about drinking tap water in Mexico is a bad thing, but you forgot you're a Diaz. You forgot that your roots have drunk the same water. You're a fruit of poison, a product of those chemical used to treat the water you drink. Keeping a few fish in your big tank doesn't make you better fish keeper. If you don't believe me, you can ask PETA. They would ask you if you would drink the water from your tank, and when you refuse, they would tell you that your tank is disgusting as others, and you're as disgusting as other fish keepers. Enjoy your high horse ride. When it's all set and done, you'll realize that stool, whether loose, smushy, or hard, are equally stink and disgusting.

1. I don't recall SBUSE making a comment about goldfish, so how could I be hurt by it? You mentioned the goldfish. The point I was making was that it's easier to rehome a goldfish than a GATF. Do you disagree with that?

2. I did not cycle my tank with goldfish. I seeded my sump with established media from my 70G. You should try it sometime...it works great.

3. What does my ethnicity have to do with anything? If you must know, I'm Cuban, not Mexican. Why does that matter?

4. What did I say that was not factual about johnptc's setup? Is he not running four 6KW heaters?

5. Keeping my fish alive does make me a better fishkeeper. Your Death Row thread is very aptly named...you have just as many dead fish in that thread as new live fish. You also keep fish that you cannot properly care for and that's why you are so upset. What were you going to do with the (3) Bumblebee grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus- AKA Giant Grouper) that grow to be several hundred lbs? Fact is, you don't have an answer, so you get upset when I pose the question.

6. The EPA sets the standard for drinking water. One way municipalities reduce the chances of our tap water containing bacteria is to treat it with chlorine and/or chloramine; treated water is a good thing. When you forget to use prime to remove chloramines, bad things happen to your fish, but you know that already, don't you?

7. Horses scare me...they are very large/powerful animals and I don't like horseback riding, so I won't be on one anytime soon. ;)

I should apologize for questioning the notion that 3 fish that grow to be 4' long + in a 125G is somehow responsible fishkeeping. I now know that in the near future, a house will be built, containing a several thousand gallon aquarium heated by "olypic pool heaters." I'm sure the blueprints are currently being drawn up and construction will begin shortly.

I stand by my word...I will buy a Pima for that tank once it's built and if Scott let's me, I will name it after you. :)

BTW, one of the tell tale signs of being a hoarder is being in denial that you are incapable of caring for the creatures that you hoard. In the past year you have forgotten to plug heaters in essentially freezing your fish to death, forgotten to unplug heaters essentially cooking your fish, forgotten to add water conditioner essentially poisoning your fish, kept incompatable species together resulting in fish killing one another and kept tanks so heavily stocked that your groupers couldn't even last for a few hours after you accidentally tripped the breaker and as a result they suffocated.

Yes, I am a better fishkeeper than you because I know my limits. You are in way over your head and all these mishaps clearly prove that.

If you would like to continue this discussion, lets do so civily via PM.

all fish need to start somewere. 3 fish that grow to 4' in a 125 when they are only 7-8" is far frompoor fish keeping. so would you say an aro starting out in a 20gal is bad fish keeping?

i'll hold you to that pima. i am/ have been looking for the right house. i am getting to the point were i am just going to buy the land and bulid it myself. i can do it all. i had one house picked out but it was to far for my brother in law at the time. now i am on my own without him to hinder were i move.

Growouts are awesome as long as the larger tank is ready when needed. It sounds like you have that covered, so my apologies for doubting that.

Pima is yours once the 10,000G is built. You thinking about doing a viewing panel or just a pond, only viewable from the top?

i will be having both the top veiw and a window for the side. all my ponds will be done that way. i would not sacrifice the side view for anything. i have been talking to a few guys about pricing a window for it. i just have to figure out how big i want it to be and if i want more then one. that changes many factors on the price and thickness of the acrylic. i will have some ponds like my 125gal stand i build, but instead of a 40breeder in the frames hole it would be the viewing panel. here is a pic of that stand just after i built it. i am a master woodworker. i can make anything. i think the side of the pima setup will have the same carside boards as this stand ant i will build it as a wall of the man cave. then from another room on the main level you would have the "normal" indoor pond view. the side of that level i have not finalized to be log cabin or carside style.
