Wasnt my personal mistake but a good one to mention. A previous fish specialist at my store was closing and doing water changes. He was using a python and actually closed and left while it was still filling the final tank. We fill a majority to the tanks themselves and the rest to a sump below, regardless it ended up shorting out all the FW setups and flooding a 1/4 of the store! Nor too mention 80 percent of the livestock died! Super bummer!
Thus ends the career of an LFS employee...;)

I put a ceramic type eagle in the middle of my tank and after some time I noticed it was flaking so I decided to take it out. When I took it out it had broken apart inside the hollow part and it caused the tank water to go completely white when I removed it. I removed the fish and ended up loosing a 8 inch Bala.

back when i had goldfish they all got whitespot about a weeks after i got them, they were in a 100L tank and there was all sorts in there and all unique and handpicked lol.
so they get whitespot, i treat them with everything the little petshop could flog me and it didnt get better. so my mums mates says "my sister puts some dettol in there and coz its anti bacterial it cleans them completly".......needless to say all my fish were dead within an hour! :-( it still really upsets me that i was so stupid...and iv learned from my mistake....iv never bought any dettol since!

Confucious say
"if you look back and you can laugh, you have figured it out. if you look back confused you have a very big problem"

lol

Oh, this one's too good not to type the whole thing.

Had an XP3 hooked up to one of my tanks. One day I decided that I needed more filtration so I ordered an FX5 to hook up to it.

That night I went out for beers with friends and got home fairly intoxicated. Proceeded to drink more beer. Discovered that there was a problem with the XP3 so I decided to fix it.

I fixed the problem but couldn't get the stupid motor on correctly. I got frustrated and managed to break one of the latches. No spare filters.

Woke up the next morning to try and find a replacement latch. No LFS in my city just sold parts and I couldn't buy another XP3. Ended up having to buy an XP4 just so that the fish didn't get poisoned. FX5 arrived two days later.

Found a site on the Internet that night and ordered a replacement latch for about $2. Grrr.

As a side note, the tank that the XP4 and FX5 are hooked up to has absolutely pristine water.

Netting an Irwini with the wrong type of net - he was so tangled. I ended up having to use tweezers with him in a 20 gallon bin in order to get it all off.

A few weeks after I set up my first tank the lady at the pet store sold me some african cichlids assuring me they were community fish. Needless to say all of my fish were dead minus those african cichlids
