Mistake #2: Putting the most gorgeous Red Oranda in a 29 gallon tank that was set up for only 1 day with another one who we didn't much care for. The little baby face one eventually got a nasty ulcer and hoping petsmart will be able to quarantine him in one of their "hospital" tank only to have him pass away the next day, but now the "ugly" one is getting big an beautiful.
Mistake #3: When converting the 29 gallon into a quarantine take for new arrivals in for the 75 gallon, I didn't double check the o-rings on the powerheads of the filters which were sticking out and dumped 10 gallons of water on the carpet...thank God for sham-wows!!!
Mistake #4:...i'm sure it'll come soon...hopefully later...
Orandas are a beautiful goldfish for sure...we went through our fair share of them...they have to be the most difficult fish i have ever kept and I been doing this for a fairly long time...every time you turn around they have some kinda something going wrong with them...All i can say is DO NOT overstock and 2-3X the filtration that you'd normally need for tropicals.
They are cold water species and that's why all the ailments...best kept in a pond w Lots of water...IMHO of course...Good luck ~Ben O
Shoot it ain't over yet...if it seems like it's too big to eat, it ain't...you'll see some ungody meals eaten by that Cat...I had 2 of those and an RTC and a TSN...500.00 in fish before I learned my lesson...and they seem so pleasant at first...and I fed them like HOGs as well...
yes petsmart/petco/mall wart are weak fish . one of my worst times was when i went to get r/o water from the fish store and they gave me salt water instead.i was not expecting that and did my water change on a 20gal . for about a day i could not figure out what was wrong ?tested everything and nothing finally i tasted it and it was salty @#$%$%^. so i changed the water again then it got better. i lost about 20 fish the only thing that really survived was poppa cory he proceeded to live for 9 more years even with nemo sindrome/ went up the power filter no barbels or fins ouch what a life!
may be a mistake to some, but to me it isnt. i sold my car in florida so i could afford to move my 150g. tank up to illinois. i didnt want to do the lifting myself . . . lol.
