this happened to you too!!!! my new alligator gar is in a grow out tank!!!!Put a yes 4" Alligator Gar in with a 12" Florida Gar. Next morning no Alligator Gar. They can swallow much larger prey than one would think.

Not knowing to just float my ATF instead of bucket drip acclimation.. it died 4 or 5 hours after getting into the tank. DERP.
They need the oxygen, when you open the bag the oxygen in the water depletes quickly. And my drip wasn't fast enough to make up for it. Its never happened to me before but that's the reason I was given for it dying, everything else was fine, the other tank mates were fine, params were fine, MAD flow from 2 marineland 600s .

I read somewhere that it was ph that caused problems when acclimatising fish after long time in a bag. Ammonia would build up in the bag water, but because of the low ph due yo co2 build up it stayed in harmless form. Once the bag is opened o2 gets in, ph raises and more ammonia is 'unlocked'
