Sorry to sound negative but "cyber bullying" to me is crap. Just get off the computer, or better yet ignore it.

See at first i would have agreed with this, but in the case i mentioned, the cyber bullying actually started turning into physical threats with one comment that was posted on one of her blogs or something stating "we're going to get a bunch of guys to rape you" (obviously i toned it down from the original but you get the point)... now although i know it could have just as easily been all smack talk... but having seen first hand how crazy kids now a days can be, as in stabbing a guy in line to buy a movie ticket for AUD $20, i don't blame the girl for taking legal action...

As some have mentioned in here, schools now a days just don't have the means to stop bullying with all the policy's that are out there, and the only way to solve it is by any other (legal) means possible, before it is too late and some one actually gets hurt / stab / shot or raped...

-EDIT-

Just also want to add, she actually did get off the computer and closed down her account, but then they started text messaging her and calling her daily threatening her which is when she finally called the police, since the school couldn't / wouldn't do anything...

I mean think back to the 80's and early 90's... how many kids actually had cell phones and texted called on a regular basis... prices were so high back then it just wouldn't be possible... where as cyber bullying now a days with all the tech makes it way to easy for those who think they can bully others, do so...

Ok maybe its just my background but some kid threatens to have my daughter raped, the schools/cops/kids parents get one shot at locking the bully(s) up for a very long time, if not the coroner is going to have new decorations in his office. And not just the bully, but the bully's whole family. You can't spawn that kind of scum and think wash your hands of it.

Yeah... Thats my thoughts exactly... I've always been very much against any threats of rape... Especially to people im close to...

A few months, a girl about a mile or two from here jumped in front of a bus and took her own life because of cyber bullying. There was a tribute page made on FB in her memory, and dozens of people were trolling it and making jokes about her death, even though her friends and family had made posts in the group. If that's what she had to deal with when she was alive... that kind of mental and emotional torture and abuse... you cant just argue that she should have "gotten off the computer". People that f-ed in the head arent gonna stop just because the object of their hatred gets off the computer.

Wow. I have to agree though I don't think that people are willing to stop bullying bc their prey tries to hide.

Thats why hiding in a way it makes it worst.. Coz then the bully feels empowered over the victim and often bring it up a level...

i don't have any remorse for the rapist, but why would you kill the whole family? you have no idea how they raised the person. for all you know, that one bad apple may have been just that, a bad mental apple

She took her life because she was mentally disturbed and needed help, not because of cyber bullying.

I've got no remorse period when it comes to potential threats to my loved ones. You kill the whole family to one) make sure that the bad genes, raising, etc doesn't get passed on and more importantly two) to make the punishment of the crime carry such weight that few would try it. As we all know in America prison is soft on people and three) you make sure that no one is left to retaliate against you. If the cops and courts won't protect the people they are sworn to serve we should take matters into our own hands. Why should our tax dollars go to protect and coddle those that would harm our families? Yeah it sounds draconian but its time to actually start punishing the monsters in our society rather than give them a slap on the wrist.
