Some people shouldnt keep fish!!!!

Seriously, there are 2 groups of people here. One group is all about status and gaining admiration for their fish, the other group keeps fish and views them as pets. IMO this is just the same is religious and political threads on here in the way that it involves people with extremely different views. So no one is ever going to see eye to eye. This thread has simply proven my point how high status members are admired. The fact that this tank belongs to a known fishkeeper who has other large tanks and large fish, simply makes it alright. I looked at this guy's other tanks and all are overstocked like hell. I don't care who he is in the fish world and how many tanks he has or how many fish he keeps, he overstocks his tanks and I am not so sure to say this is healthy for these fish or even humane. But hey, this is all personal opinion and I know others are going to disagree. Any low status or new members on here always get everyone jumping on their back with overstocked tanks, then at the same time visit another thread praising a high status member with a grossly overstocked tank. I see this everyday on here, if you are low status you get severely criticized, high status you get praised even when the tanks are similarly stocked. People pick and choose who can keep what and how they can keep it. If this thread was about another fishkeeper I bet some people in this thread who are saying this is fine, would change their opinion and say it is wrong.
 
I honestly don't know many people on this thread, nor do I recognize their names honestly. You point is valid however, but because when newbies do it it is generally with minimum filtration and water change regimes. Those of us with 25 years plus experience can do things now that others tend not to get away with. This is for two reasons. First we all tend to overfilter and do huge water changes weekly. Secondly, we just know how to read our fish better. We recognize things that you only learn from experience and do so early before it becomes an issue.

All in all there is entirely too much criticism on this site. We should be here to help and learn from each other, not constantly bash others. No one really knows who are they talking to on this site outside of a few people you may know in real life. Yet I see people that just hate each other on here and go out of their way to bash others tanks or fish. We were all beginners at one time and we all lose fish either by our fault or not. If you have never screwed up and lost a fish then you haven't been doing this for long. The key is to learn from your mistakes and get better over time.

I once saw a trade in silver arowana that was 24 inches long. It was in a 30 gallon hex its whole life. It was literally a semicircle because it hadnt been able to straighten out. Lfs owner talked to the customer and told him he couldnt give him anything for the fish because he was going to euthanize it. He sold him some mini monsters that could live in that tank for life and I think that he learned something by it. That is something to criticize but do so in a teaching way. Bashing someone never helps.

im impartial to this topic. The fish look cool tank looks good. is it over stocked ? yeah but i have no idea how big the tank is
 
If the guy has so many tanks including some giant ones, why assume they live in that one tank? You all agree they look healthy, maybe he just put them all in there while cleaning or doing something else with their primary homes and took a good opportunity to photo his beloved fish? People on this site tend to open up wars over anyyhing they dont personally do.. its amazing.. I actually think there are more flames and nastiness on fish topics than anything else.. lol

No, I think that fish that have to avoid each other constantly only happens in the really overstocked tanks (JDM). Or if you have too large of fish for a tank, this will also happen, since the tank only has one "lane."

Miguel- I think we have different ideas of "avoiding fish." I'm not talking occasionally, that will obviously happen. I meant can't swim more then it's body length without bumping/avoiding other fish...

Two main reasons why I don't understand why anyone would keep fish like this, the maintenance, and fishes well being. Maintaining these tanks requires ridiculous amounts of labor, and any one who attempts it either has a lot of time, or they are trying to prove something. On the other hand, if you try to automate everything, one little thing goes wrong and you come home from a long day of work to your worst nightmare. I'm not going to discuss fish well being, because every person in this hobby thinks of their fish differently, so that's up to the individual where they draw the line.

I personally don't see how people can even look at these tanks in their home, let alone show them off... Theres a reason KFC doesn't show off their chicken coops, not sure why it isn't the same with fish.

Some one posted "this is MFK, not MFH" and I completely agree.

I wasnt going to post in this thread, buy it got me thinking of that arapima that was baiscally living in a tank that was as long as its body...

The fish itself looked very healthy, but could anyone honestly say that is what is best for the fish?

I mean water was pristine, fish was large and seemingly healthy, but then it had no where to go literally, couldnt turn, dedinitely wasn't going to swim any where, all it had was what looked like a power head blowing a current towards the fish's face...

So when i see JDM tanks, thats what i think of personally... Just because they seem healthy an water is perfect, doesnt mean its in the fishes best interest...
