Seriously, there are 2 groups of people here. One group is all about status and gaining admiration for their fish, the other group keeps fish and views them as pets. IMO this is just the same is religious and political threads on here in the way that it involves people with extremely different views. So no one is ever going to see eye to eye. This thread has simply proven my point how high status members are admired. The fact that this tank belongs to a known fishkeeper who has other large tanks and large fish, simply makes it alright. I looked at this guy's other tanks and all are overstocked like hell. I don't care who he is in the fish world and how many tanks he has or how many fish he keeps, he overstocks his tanks and I am not so sure to say this is healthy for these fish or even humane. But hey, this is all personal opinion and I know others are going to disagree. Any low status or new members on here always get everyone jumping on their back with overstocked tanks, then at the same time visit another thread praising a high status member with a grossly overstocked tank. I see this everyday on here, if you are low status you get severely criticized, high status you get praised even when the tanks are similarly stocked. People pick and choose who can keep what and how they can keep it. If this thread was about another fishkeeper I bet some people in this thread who are saying this is fine, would change their opinion and say it is wrong.

Seriously, why people who overstock their tank are all about status? I over stock my tank because my loaches would die of loneliness :p

I love this picture of a raccoon peering into one of the windows of Ted's tank. I say Kudos to Ted for taking in all these unwanted fish who outgrew their tiny tanks--fish owned by people who didn't do their research first, or who just didn't care that they would not be able to keep the fish for life.

What are the options for a big fish that has outgrown its small tank? Euthanasia or rehoming. The world is a better place with people like Ted and Johnpct who accept throw away fish. If anyone should be bashed (I'm not advocating bashing on this forum, but remember, this started out as a bashing thread), it's all the people who start threads about their new fish, and when questioned about their long term plans for housing their new fish casually write that they will give the fish away when the fish gets too big. The monster fishkeeping community does not need people growing out monster fish with plans to just dump the fish later.

Execution, or the chance to live many more years. For me, there is a difference in an overstocked rescue tank and an overstocked tank where the owner deliberately purchased all the fish and brags about it. If I do any tsktsking, only my cat hears it. Has anyone noticed that the people with the monster tanks Ted, John, Arapaimag, streetlightz, bigrich545, haven't done a lot of recent posting on their tanks? They don't need to. Why do the rest of us post? Ouch! I don't like some of the answers I come up with.

Look here Pacu, I'm not trying to start an argument, but that racoon isn't looking at the fish, he's way too busy helping clean the canister at the bottom left. Is it so hard to look before judging please?

Oh and the rest of what you posted was well put. :)

But, I'm glad MFK has progressed...I remember back in 2007 and 2008, the JDM fishkeepers claiming to be taking fishkeeping "to the next level" dominated the site; tanks like the one pictured were pretty common...glad to see most of these guys have fallen off...they gave the site a bad name.

LOL!! JDM fish keepers! :ROFL:I cant believe JDM made its way over to the fish community

Exactly, Pacu Mom, exactly. Makes one wonder.

They don't psost about their tanks, neither do they post, regrettably, about anything, BECAUSE they got tired.

Do people remember, heartily missed, R1Riddah' s tanks, before he " somewhat mellowed "... Or are people going to say he learned to chnage his ways?

I see only one civil side here.. unfortunately.. I agree some tanks are horrible, mostly because of the person behind the tank and that does more often than not shine through..

I completely agree with Miguel, the people who JDM'ed the **** out of their tanks gave us lots of valuable information of what works and not.. I also agree on keeping a Umbee or Dovii isn't mfking.. it's just a "SA" tank with a cichlid.. sort of..

of course there are tanks that everybody can agree is inhumane as **** but those people aren't in it for the fish and often get sorted out pretty quickly..

as this debate has shown the side, especially you pyramid_party that think it's terrible to keep fish this way trying to change those who has a more live and let live approach to the hobby..

if the fish look good there is nothing to complain about.. a life is a life to most.. the mainstream fishkeeper is sure to kill more fish per year than a JDM'er if not for humane reasons but economical.. you simply can't afford to be some moron who forget to change water or overfeed the tank to death..

you are always welcome to debate but I wish I could wake up every morning and be sure enough I'm right in what I think that I could just declare someone legally incompetent through the web..

if you really care about fish the mainstream hobbyists are the ones to attack.. the shipping of smaller less expensive fish kill by the hundreds and so on.. difference between a mainstream hobbyist and an mfker is this..

nitrate spike on a mainstream forum; HEEELP!!!!! something happened and now all my fish are dead.. what? I don't know when I changed water! what do you mean by overfeeding? I have a pleco, don't they take care of that?

nitrate spike on MFK; *****!!! I'm a god damned idiot, I forgot to check the pipe for my overflow, there was a giant shrimp that spoiled the water. I'm devastated, how could I be that stupid.. I'll be selling some fish, it feels like I lost some of my children..

Exactly said. Well described. That is what i consider mfking, not the bio load.

Exactly that.
