You surely did not understand the image...it is called an hyerbole ( english? may fail me here )

You gave us Times Square and now this, how about some real, serious and objective, cons against stocking?

It also really depend on the fish. I use my loaches as example, I have 30+ in my tank, but frankly, if I double that amount, as long as I am able to over filter and do massive wcs, the fish don't care. In fact, they will do better than if I have only 6 in the same tank.

Now if I put two umbies in the same tank, one knows what will happen.

Imagine "fish paradise," and honestly tell me if the picture that popped in your head is anything close to these bare, grossly overstocked JDM tanks. Obviously almost all hobbyists can't re-create "fish paradise," but a moderately stocked tank with at least some form of scaping/cover is a whole lot closer, and shouldn't we be striving towards "fish paradise" and not away from it?

Miguel- how about you offer some solid, objective evidence and support for your side. All I've seen is "to each their own" and "we learned a lot from the JDM guys." Honestly, they can keep their knowledge of keeping fish alive in an unstable condition. Give me any beneficial reason for this method of fish keeping, besides the aggression BS.

It went back to the original topic. You say that he's a hero because he rescues fish that were going to end up as bait. To me, unless he can properly keep or rehome every fish, he's no better then the hoarder family that accepts every "helpless" dog and cat.

we all put fish in boxes, that's what we do.. fish paradise doesn't have anything to do with what we do.. we keep pets, dogs would ideally live in packs hunting for food but we replaced the pack with us and 4 walks a day.. if you like a scaped tank then hell, have a scaped tank.. I have.. but I wouldn't bash on someone who doesn't..

what you seem to miss is that we all agree on some tanks, this thread started out as a flame thread until someone noticed who they flamed, namely a guy who gave his fish 8000 gallons.. until you sacrifice the time and money to do 8000 gallons for your fish you might be a little more laid back in your criticism.. :)

if the owner of the tank in the original picture was here and said, "I don't care for the health of my fish, I have no plans for upgrades, if they die they die" I would be the first to call him an idiot but in this case that just isnt the truth..

since communication with fish is limited at best we just can't say what makes a fish happy.. I for one have NEVER seen a happy arowana.. I have seen arowanas that is well taken care of but never a happy one.. I have seen catatonic aros in terrible environments, I've seen beat up aros, skittish aros etc but I've never seen an aro in a scaped tank with a smile and his sad brother in the bare tank.. most fish is CB and not WC, in other words, what we show them is what they know..

Of course, my idea of a good well established, satisfying tank, is not the one we saw in the beginning of this thread. And I did not say that anyone as a hero.

I reacted to the bashing of all timers, and will always pubicly recognize and acknpwkedge that it as they that went the extra mile.

But then the discussiomn went further.

There is no fish paradise in our tanks; there barely is in nature, nowadays.

I like, that is my personal opinion, a JDm tank. Never having had one, I gaze, amazed, at what those guys manage to have with a very big modicum of quality ( more than your average tank, you will admit ).

Objective evidence? Apart from Alex, on the opposing side :), i saw none other.

Objective evidence? It works. There are ways to make it work, there are systems created and designed throuugh the work of these guys, and, as has ben said, death toll is diminute compared o your run of the mill keeper.

And why are the conditions unstable? Why more unstable than your 100 gallon dovii or umbee tank with a wc change a month?

Agression BS? Go talk to the african cichlid keepers ( never kept, never will keep ), those bull****ters.

We have so called "monsters", agressive fish, and, therefore, agression is routine. Who is not apt to deal with it, as said, back to Mollies.

And a certain degree of overstocking, a certain degree of 'unscaped' tanks curbs agression.

Objective evidence? I have seven male 1 foot Midas and 4male 1 foot Jaguars and a 1 foot Mayan, all together. Besides the macho posturing now and then, not one scrape, not one wound, not one humiliated, underdog fish.

People with two soon report that one shredded the other to pieces.

Bs agression?

To me fish are well...fish. they aren't my dog Oreo or my rat who has 2 tumors and will shortly die from them. They are fish...nothing more, nothing less.

I'm a little rough when it comes to fish keeping. If I want to keep 6 oscars in a 125 with wc every 3 days then I'm going to do that. And I will happily post pictures. Not to say "oh look I have an overstock tank", but because I like my tank and want to post pictures like most people do.

I think these people who argue that fish shouldn't be kept in boxes and its inhumane to do such things can leave the hobby. A fish can't be kept inhumane! Infishmane??? Don't know....but not inhumane. Not for me at least.

I value the people who want to keep them properly and will only keep 1 oscar in a 125. I'm also the type to not name fish. I have a 8 year old african clawed frog...her name is african clawed frog-the old one. They are fish...treat them properly and I'm content.

I'm sure I'm going to get flack for this, but we all have our own ways of keeping things.
