OXFAM: "100 richest people could end world poverty"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Or Margaret Thatcher - "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. "
the world is still paying for the terrible policies of Thatcher ( and her poodle Reagan)..she single handedly almost destroyed UK manufacturing.

You have something to back up those wild statements? Perhaps an NPR or Huffington post piece? Piers Morgan special you saw?

You say, "There will always be the haves and the have-nots, but the "give me that" people are seldom willing to use force when they have the majority and think they can use "democracy" to take from others." I strongly disagree with this statement (amongst others).
I think that it is the elite who could arguably be called the "give me that" people. There are millions of hardworking people who work 40 hrs+ per week and don't earn a livable wage. There are millions of people denied medical care and subsequently dying from treatable conditions. Meanwhile, WE ALL pay high taxes. Then we carry the debt while banks and corporations get huge tax breaks, loans and bailouts worth $12.8 trillion according to Bloomberg News
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/economy/the-true-cost-of-the-bank-bailout/3309/.
This article says 7.7 trillion but either way, that's the money that you see missing from your check every month.
http://theweek.com/article/index/221883/the-federal-reserves-breathtaking-77-trillion-bank-bailout
And where did the money go?
http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-ba...uses-for-ceos-of-bailed-out-companies/5321116
Towards raises and cash bonuses for banking CEOs and executives. No wonder why they're getting wealthier and wealthier while the rest of us fall farther and farther into debt.

I respect your opinion. I think it's a bit of a stretch though to say that the "haves" are screaming "give me that.." this is easily dismissed except for the most rabidly biased mind.

My sister is a Blue dog dem who screams this same retoric all the time. There are no millions "denied" coverage. I work in the medical field and it's just silly talk. If you look at your states medical programs as well as federal programs there is no cost or low cost health care on the books everywhere. Of course it's also a crime for a hospital to deny emergency service to anyone. If you mean millions who don't have health insurance, that may be true but the used to have a choice. If you have a job usually you have health care or at least can if you choose to prioritize healthcare. Some do, some don't. As for the millions (why is it always millions. No study.. no data.. but automatically retoric must have a big number for small minded people to believe it) who work more than 40 hours a week and don't earn enough, that sucks. I don't know what enough is. I made $10 an hour at my first job, worked 40 hours at 17 and had a car, an apartment and a decent life. Maybe people have made bad choices and why should I pay for them? This is America and the option to go a low route through life is still better than most of the world. Those who work hard and make good decisions, go to school, get a good career should be rewarded. They are paying most of the taxes anyway.. Wish them luck.

I do not think Britain would have survived as a world power had Thatcher not done the things she did.

LOL "world power" LOL, compared to luxembourg maybe........dreams of Empire and obsolete Victorian ideals.....
you have read some sanitized broad picture propaganda maybe, but in the details the british industrial capacity was decimated , stripped and shipped offshore, leaving whole cities without employment in traditional heavy industries like steel and coal and shipbuilding. She privatized strong state industries and sold then off on the super cheap to hr rich friends.... so What did she do? .. apart from a military skirmish in the Falklands...or introducing a Poll tax ( which would cause a violent revolution if tried in the US and did cause riots across the UK) she was forced to resign when even her own cabinet wanted nothing more to do with her.
Do not mistake Meryl Streep for the real deal......even Streep apologized for the sheer propaganda of the movie 'Iron Lady'. Thatcher was FAR to the right in politics , a fascist almost, and is hugely unpopular in the UK even now!
Churchill she most certainly was NOT~

I'll say this... I am at a community college right now transferring to a university in the fall. You need more money? Go back to school and train in a career that makes more money. They will literally accept anyone with a high school diploma (which they offer courses in if you don't have one) and will pay for 100% of it AND give you extra money for nothing AND offer you additional subsidized loans with 0% interest until you graduate AND offer child care, night classes, online classes. There are also plenty of scholarships. You can transfer to most universities, if you get the grades. If you wanted to and put the effort in, you could go to law school, medical school, etc.

This is all well and good. IMO education should be a right, but how does someone in a $$$ poor demographic, who maybe also has a family to support, pay for food rent etc while taking advantage of that?
