What's a good guard dog?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hear you about the apartment size. My apartment is three floors, and has ample space for a dog. The dog we looked at today was originally said to be 2 but upon further inspection was just over a year old per the shelter. Perhaps a puppy would be better as we are planning to move in less than a year too. Prolly shoulda put the size of the apartment in the beginning.

Puppy shepherd and baby not a ideal mix. Raising a child and dog that intend to be a guard dog is not a easy thing plus adolescent shepherds can be nippy. I say get a middle aged dog already mellowed out, easier to deal with and won't go through that destroy your house phase

Rottweiler makes a perfect family dog as I have three kids myself youngest just turned one and he climbs in the dog bed on the dog from top to bottom and he doesn't even flinch they are the best with kids work well with apartments as they are for the most part not a very active dog I promise the Rottweiler will make the best family dog you can get my girl who hates dogs and is afraid of them is now in love with our dog

standard little staffy all the way, great temperament and awesome with kids...

A german shepherd will protect but also love your family and would intimidate anybody coming onto your property.

Best choice IMO (although crazy mike's dog sounds interesting!)

Gs is out as my youngest wouldnt go near the nicest dog I've ever met bc she was big. She loved a Begal someone else was adopting so looks like that's the route we might go. How are they typically with kids n guard dog wise?
