Armatus ID? Still Black (Hydrolycus wallacei)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think we can call it, boys. That's wallacei.

Probably tomorrow, I'm going to update the Payara guide with pics of this fish and new info. furcifer158 furcifer158 if you have anything you'd like to add, let me know and it'll go into the guide.
I'll pm you just the things I have noticed. I'll look for some more photos too. I bought the fish when it was around 4 inch. I might be able to round up some pics of it when it was younger.

Keeping up with an army in growth rate, maybe it's max size is larger than thought to be?

Most of its life it has been a little more that half the size of the armatus. I started to spot feed it and starve the armatus about 6 month ago so it could catch up. Last month or so I think it's slowing down and just getting taller and fatter. The armatus is getting longer again. Might be looking to get rid of the armatus if that's the case.

Makes sense, hope you've got no plans of getting rid of him, this is the first case I've heard of one being kept

No worries furcifer....if there are any issues I'll take the wallacei of ur hands, j/k!

Don't think we should get in to that.
I couldn't ever pass it up though. Once in a life fish here. I would regret selling right away. I almost sold it this spring when I was thinking of trying some new fish. Glad I didn't now. Maybe one day if they hit the hobby we will know what they would sell for. Just curious I guess. I remember paying $300 for my first armatus. Crazy to think that price now, but that was years ago.

I added a winking smiley on the post but never got thru. Oh well....thanks iPhone!
