Dietary diversity, what's your take the subject?

Doubt my guys would eat veggie pellets/algae wafers. They don't eat pellets period...which is why I crush it up and put it in their gel food. I normally use NLS, Hikari gold or sinking carnivore pellets.

I figured they could use some veggie content in their diet, which is why I add spinach and what not. I believe they get a little of that in their diet in the wild...I keep RBP's BTW.

So my typical feeding schedule would look something like this: day 1 - tilapia, day 2 - gel food, day 3 - cod, day 4 - gel food, day 5 - salmon, day 6 - gel food, day 7 - halibut and so on...

I make 2 kinds of gel food monthly and alternate them when feeding as well so that they're not constantly eating the same one.
1.)OMG, your fish eat better than I DO!!! That's about $50 worth of fish fillets.
2.)watch the spinach, it has oxalates a.k.a. calcium blockers, I used it sparingly w/ my lizards, and I still would with fish. Every 2 weeks is more than sufficient.
3.)What is RBP? Red belly piranha?

Oh man... I kinda of just feed my fish when I feed them. And they get frozen shrimp cubes once a week or so.
I used to try and do a scheduled thing but I found it unnecessary.

Yessir...red bellys.

I'm waiting for the day the cashier at the market asks me why I buy all this fish so I can tell them it's for my fish LOL

I think the schedule is a must with the bigger fish cause " at least with mine " when you miss a feeding -_- they totally lett you know. * splash , splash , splash , crash! " means " Hey idiot you didn't feed me enough protein yesterday!"

Save yourself $1,000s - go trout fishing in the spring after they stock. I load my freezer w/ up to 100+ fish that will last all year, simply submerge them in water in a freezer bag and freeze them. it helps if you have a 2nd freezer for fish and wild game. Everytime I eat one, I say to myself, "Well, there's $25 that won't be going to Bonefish Grill or Red Lobster"........................or the grocery store for that matter.

:p

Ya, my Red Devil loves peas and most of my carnivorous cichlids are warming up to the greens as long as it's minced or smushed. U can get Oscars to take 'em whole cuz they look just like pellets

Yes, but it's also a perfect opportunity to introduce them to a new food. Treat them like children. "No more food until you eat your vegetables"......if they're hungry enough, they WILL eat them.

I wouldn't like to be fed the same foods day in day out, and i apply that to my fish. The fish food cupboard in our house is as diverse as the family food cupboard (not to mention a damn sight more expensive too, ha).

I really dislike freeze dried foods, such as bloodworm; just looks horrible, and I just get a bad feeling from giving it to fish lol

I dont feed them bw either no real reason just dont.

I feed every other day.

For my polys its what evers in the freezer (flounder, shrimp, tilapia) and either omega one or nls thera A

Cichlids get mostly theraA and algaemax, then shelled peas, romain lettuce, kelp pellets.

Tried to get them to eat red seaweed from omega one but only my zonatus will take it
