Restarting a Monster Comm

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The dorado was sold as I looked for it this afternoon. Bummer.

On the bright side, the wolf is very stable and took 2 (two incher) tilapia feeder hours ago. Could see its belly now (which was much fatter earlier on).

Really love these wolves so much so that I am trying to get my LFS to bring a Curupira in as comm mate.

Wolf will work with odoes and bass. Make sure it ain't too small and not ur ery ery. Mala or the bigger cousins will work out.

Echoed kno4te thoughts here.

Only thing might be you have put in extra effort to feed the wolf as it will not be able to match the speed of PBs and Odoes during feeding.

Do get a black wolf (Curupira) if it available at your end. Had kept one before and it is a much more active and interesting (color changes) wolf compared to the rest.

The curu is a good choice. Will hold its own and will come up for food.

I love hand feeding, so I have no issue picking who gets the food. While I wouldn't trust a wolf to hand feed once a finger fits in the mouth, I have long pinchers that'd do the trick. ;)

Will a Curu or a Mala fit a 220g (180 of actual water)?

The Odoe and Pbass if remaining 3 of each will either be moved to the next tank this year, or lowered to 2 of each to stay in that one, if I finally find 3 Channa Diplogramma for the next tank.

Not too sure about mala (since I am new on them and there are many subspecies) but with proper filtration your tank size may hold 2 curus.

They grow to about 12-15 inches long I believed and after a certain stage, the growth is more towards their thickness then length.

Can wait to see your updates here if you go ahead with your plans.

A curu or mala will be fine in 220g. No prob. Mala will reach 20 inches and curu will likely get 15-20 inches in home aqauriums. Curus have been reported to get up to 30 inches in the wild.

The pbass should be ok but similar size or a little bigger will help avoid predation.

Yea....hand feeding will need to stop with wolves.

Hand feeding was more about not minding target feeding, the big pinchers I have helped me feed a few of my cats back in the days :D

As for going through with it, it remains to be seen. Odoes are here tomorrow, Orinos are ordered, but might be anywhere within the month, and I have yet to find any hoplias at my usual wholesaler.

I have yet to weight whether I want a wolf or 20 loaches, as I heard their behavior is amazing too, but I lean more towards the predator, always have, always will.

If I do decide to do it, and find one or two wolves, I will most definitely post here, I bought a DSLR just to take pictures of my tanks and share ;D

If you're going for 2 wolves, curu are known to be the least friendly towards other wolves, though it is possible. I had mine with a smaller mala for a while till the mala broke its jaw, and then jumped from a hospital tank. If I could do it again I'd start with a larger mala. If you're going for 2 of the same species, I'd say do 2 mala. West1 I believe tried two curus in a 300 (might be off) and the larger one killed the smaller one.
