what's in the QT?

thanks O! I just purchased the sunblaster 6400k last night. It's the 4ft one you had linked before. Should be here on Thursday. Reflector for it comes next week. Still trying to figure out how I am going to clip or set it on top of the tank. Hoping that some of my plants will come back from the dead lol. Do you have the 10,000k on your teug or ornate tank?

How long would you suggest leaving it on each day for a 55gal with Val's, amazon swords, and dead anubias nanas?

Thank you, Mags! You actually re convinced me to buy it from this post. Have been looking at in on amazon for weeks. It should be here on Friday at the latest I think.

The parrots are quite silly. One likes to sit on the algae scrubber and the other one likes to dig holes in the sand!

I have one of each on the 75g because I failed to check the kelvin rating on the bulbs when purchasing. I haven't noticed a significant difference in growth between bulbs, but visually there is a difference.

2 bulbs is a bit of overkill for normal plants. For Vals and crypts 1 bulb is plenty. Anubias are a low light plant so you'll have plenty of light for them.

I run mine 10 hours a day. For your 55g, perhaps try a 8 hour photoperiod and watch to see that algae doesn't start to form on your plants. If it does, you can either decrease the photoperiod or raise the light higher above the tank. I've found dialing back the # of hours is the easiest and does the trick.

Do you have snails? If not it might be a good idea to get some ramshorns. (Do not get pond snails). Having snails will help keep algae in check as you learn what works for your plants and water chemistry. Clean algae free plants = better growth.

I think you guys should check out the poly carb its just as cheap as the eggrate and easierier to cut no injuries if they smack it and no need to weight it down if you duct tape it.

What about the light? Can the light go thru the poly carb?

I'm experimenting with poly carb now, I haven't taped it down, I'm using some 7 foot lengths of wood to weigh down the edges. But the light passes through beautifully. The lids are designed for greenhouses so it's really well suited for this
Can you take a picture on what it look like pls:)
