Peacock Bass Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I mentioned previously in a thread that my bass hit the top of the tank and she nicked her face. It got a little white (nicks). I thought it could be HLLE.
Top fin was also damaged with white stringy stuff.
It wasn't. Salt and StressGuard solved it. But she was eating well and otherwise ok.
In your case if you want to save the bass you need to get rid of that catfish. Otherwise the bass will die. Most anything you put in with that RTC in that dinky tank is going to get roughed up.
I don't see a divider as being a solution. Not for that tank. Like I say, make a decision and divide the fish into different tanks or watch the pbass suffer and die. You need to move quick.
Bass will get dark when they aren't feeling great or when they are "sleeping".
Even fish that can defend themselves are probably going to be harassed day and night by that RTC. Your bass is giving up, staying at the bottom. Out of gas. Not eating. Disease will set in.

Put divider up for a night. Bass started to move around more. Just brought RTC to LFS. Have dosed salt twice along with a 75% water change. Also dosed cupramime as well. Bass seems to be moving around more. Will give another update tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Good move but I think the salt and water changes will resolve.
At this point I would just observe. Keep temp a little below 80. Say about 79.
Good luck

I'll just add that I also use VitaChem. In the water and the food. I'm a big believer in it. If you elect to use it, don't put it on the food until the bass is eating well. When the fish are voracious they are not as concerned about the taste difference. For your fish we just want it to start eating and beef up a bit.

I know this is a non-thread related question but is it true that the color of sand will bring out the colors of a Pb? Someone at my LFS told me that but I wasn’t sure.

Not sure that this is true. The biggest thing that brings out colors is their health and what you feed them. Various food manufactures have claims on this as far as their ingredients. You can read up on this. Personally I think FD krill is a good food time to time.
Substrate can affect the fish I believe. It also affects the lighting. Which affects the fish.
Many bass keepers have bare bottom tanks. Does it affect the colors? Not sure. I myself believe in substrate.
My bass is going from a tank with dark sand to a tank with tan sand. We shall see what happens.

Good fresh clean water always makes my fish get a little more vibrant. Water changes are the biggest thing for good health.

That’s good to know. Thanks for all your help so far. I will post pics of my Pb tonight and give updates
