Peacock Bass Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking at the recent photos I would probably do 2 cups of salt total for 75 gallons. Need to monitor closely along with whether it starts eating. Can't wait too long if it is disease that is setting in. Gotta see if its just the salt that's needed. Wish you had some stress guard.
If this doesn't seem to be making progress then possibly looking at diluting the salt down somewhat and using general cure.
If the fish starts eating that is half the battle.
Just got freeze dried krill, General Cure, ParaGuard, and Vita Chem. Tomorrow I’m getting GarlicGuard and StressGuard. What should I dose first?

You should dose with something to trear hexamita. When the fish is treated and recovering from that then you can start to feed it diffrent things. As long as its sick it wont eat because its stressed.

Sorry I've had a real busy day
If you haven't seen improvement with the white spots then it could indeed be hex.
General Cure would be in order
Tobias is a bass owner and I respect his opinion.
He has been doing this for a long time.

Thanks dave:) ive not been doing tos that long but ive had some bad luck with hex on fish. I have treated at least 7 cichlas that ive bought for HiH. Ive been using sera flagellol and salt with great success. When i treat with flagellol i do a 90% wc salt 3dl for 100L water and dont feed for 14 days just keep the tanks lights out and let fish fish be alone with medication. No wc or nothing.

Big cichlids are very prone to get HiH. Some species get it easier due to stress and water quality. Cichlas are some of these species. Ive got an mono that was so badly infected when i aquired it that it has never healed its holes but dont get any new holes and none of the other fishes its with gets any holes so it can be permanent but dont infect other fish. Hexamita is something all fish carries and its getting activated when there is a huge stress on the fish. Its a nasty thing that will eventually kill the fish slowly.

No problem Tobias. I got back in the hobby back in Spetember.
I am an avid reader.
Haven't had to treat anything but ich and abrasions since I got back in the hobby.
From what I have read many have been successful using General Cure for HLLE.

Check out the cichla forum and sticky on HITH/LLE. You might find what you need like water condition, stray electrical current, carbon, minerals. Treating is one thing but fixing the cause is another.
Maybe a mod can help you move this thread to the cichla forum or disease forum for more suggestions. Good luck.

Well maybe the RTC that was beating it up caused a little stress. Ya think?

Well I thought I would post an observation. Just for the hell of it. Saturday I moved my bass and oscars to a new tank. This can be stressful to the fish but all in all it went pretty well.
The fish immediately would eat (I fed them about 5 hours after the move. Not large portions). Everything seems fine. Not many abrasions.
Oscar and bass swimming all over and checking things out. Luther, the bigger bass actually struggled less than Theo the smaller one when netting and in the net. But Luther being bigger did get caught in the net a bit when I let him go. No big deal looks like one pec fin slightly damaged. Maybe a slight scratch on the head/ face. Very small. Saw no damage on dorsal fin.
On Sunday I noticed his dorsal had a bit of white and his face had some (maybe 3 or 4) white spots. Here we go HITH?
I fed him food (along with others) laced with VitaChem and some laced with Garlic Guard. I added more StressGuard.
BTW, Luther eats like a horse. Same in new tank. No change. In fact all the fish eat like there is no tomorrow.

Anyway, within hours the white was gone. Not sure why there were white spots on the face but thinking the sense organs are very susceptible to bacterial disease. Due to stress. Did Luther have Hex disease starting up? Maybe. Who knows. But I didn't need to medicate because he was in good spirits, eating well and I think obviously the StressGuard helped. I think the white I was seeing was slime coat.

Today another water change will be done as tank not fully cycled yet and lots of Prime (chemicals) in the water.
