Sports and fitness 2021

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Once I hit my goal look of being slim then I’ll start lifting weights again to get the slightly muscular look. After that it’s either full on strong man/power lifting or just light exercise to keep the look. Given my only weight lifting goal is to be able to do a 2,000 pound vertical leg press it’s likely I’ll do the former option.

Eat well, lift hard. May as well start lifting now to build muscle while losing excess weight, that will give you a good edge for when you get into more serious lifting.

I have not been exercising much at home lately, the motivation is hard to find. I'm busy fixing a mountain bike, will probably take that around soon enough.

We are still in our 2nd lockdown so no gyms are open.
I'm still doing some kettle bell and body weight stuff for 25-30mins every morning on weekdays and walking a lot on weekends if the weathers o.k but I'm getting a bit bored off it and losing interest a bit.
Looking forward to a nice heavy weights session when I get the chance, will be interesting to see how much I can lift compared to pre lockdown. The last time I could get to the gym consistently was back in march. 5 months without lifting can probably deteriorate a 43 year old body pretty well.

Hey Ogertron3000 Ogertron3000 what are your numbers? Or at least what were they.

We use metric system measurements here so its all in kilograms.
Height is 5foot 7 weight normally around 83kgs
Back in march I was benching and squatting 55-60kgs, 3 sets of 8-10 reps.
Around 5 years ago when I was really into it and pushing hard I was doing 70kgs, I would like to be able to do both equal to my bodyweight for the full sets eventually. It will be something to aim for once the gyms eventually reopen here.
I used to do split training eg.monday chest, tuesday back etc. butthe last few years for efficiency I started doing full body with one excercise per body part and more cardio each trip to the gym. I noticed this caused a drop in bulk but kept the fitness up and also kept everything more even and in proportion. This was because i travel a bit for my job and family obligations meant I couldnt have a regular gym schedule, 1 week i could go 5 times and the next week maybe only once so I think its better to hit the whiole body instead of focusing on just 1 part because then ego kicks in for me and I just wanted big chest and arms.
Age and some kind of maturity also played a part and I am now more concerned with fitness and strength than looking like Arnold but i do enjoy being a bit more muscular than average too.
I really started the gym because I had physical jobs from age 17 up until early 30s then I literally went from being a labourer on a building site to a sales rep in 1 week and the changes to my body, fitness and strength were quick and dramatic and I could really feel the difference both mental and physical and wanted to do something to stop the slide.
I always say you just need to find an exercise you like, whether its playing tennis, yoga or jogging, whatever and just do it more often than you dont and you will get some nice benefits.
What you are doing s great, you should be genuinely proud that you are sticking to it and improving so quickly. The physical side is one thing but the mental improvements from the discipline , self esteem and courage of making yourself exercise everyday are not to be understated either,
Good luck, you have inspired me to consider posting my gym numbers here too , just to kick start things when i can get back to it.

I’m glad to hear that bud, I would love to see you get stronger as time goes on, I would like to see everyone here achieve their goals.

Since the gyms reopened for only 3 weeks or so here in LA County and the number of cases skyrocketed during this period, the gyms probably wont be reopened for quite some time. I think the govt rushed the reopening of the gyms to appease the protesters etc. As a result, I got myself a power rack off Amazon and watched some YouTube videos to make full use of this. You can still do a full-body workout only using the power cage. I've actually gained muscle mass while staying fit by using it. ?

We had the gyms opened for 3 weeks between lockdowns then they were locked up again. In the other states where they are open there hasn't been any outbreaks linked to gyms but quite a few linked to public swimming pools so hopefully our state will open them up to at least see how it goes
No shop has a single piece of fitness equipment left here, I like the idea of a home gym now., might be worth doing the sums of buying one vs a gym membership once things get back to normal but I'd probably miss the social side of the gym too.

I actually have my own little home gym since I was “social distancing” before it was cool lol. I have a nice power rack, dumbbells, bar, weight plates of course, and even a tread mill. I was going to get a vertical leg press but didn’t for various reasons. All of that is great for someone who dislikes having to deal with other people and wants the security benefit of never being turned away because it’s after hours or the weather is bad and whatnot. All in all I’d say it’s all worth it, well, it would be worth it for someone who actively works out.
