Best tankmate would probably be a con. Raising them together might increase chances they get along.

Yea I just got me a baby JD that eats flakes pellets and then I ordered some NorthFin food and then I also am working on a better flake. Right now I have some Walmart tetra flakes not that my fish don’t like them but I want some quality fish food with no color enhancement in it!!
Hikari and nls stuff is good. My jd loves the hikari cichlid gold!

Also I want my 1” JD to grow up in one tank until moving to the 75 gallon! With that said is it wrong of me to use a whole 55 gallon where I have to feed the filter to stay fully cycled….. a pinch of flakes every day….. I am fine with it being this way. I know how big this fish will be!!

Many people will use smaller grow out tanks for young fish, I grew mine in his current tank from half an inch (but he was always with other cichlids and a banded leporinus).
Now would be a good time to bring dithers in, they will be big enough not to be eaten and grow with him so they always are big enough.

I agree, they’d also help him/her to be more active and comfortable in the tank
Well all the dither available are huge and crazy compared to her the fish is extremely small like extremely surprised my in take hasn’t taken her!!
It is rewarding to get them that small though, you can really appreciate the growth that way!
what was the growth rate like on your JD if you don’t mind me asking?
