nice. They should have a real weathered look with all those lines.

well guys i got some great news. it holds water!!!!!!!!! i decided to fill it today and it holds water with no signs of leaking! but i got a question for you all. i need to drop the tank level by 1/2 and inch i did not realize that the water would go to the top of my bulkhead fitting. i tryed blocking off half the return pipes intakes with some tape and it helped a little bit but my pump puts out too much flow to work with the restricted flow. my next thought is to take and put two 45* angle sections on the returns to make the top lower. do you think this would help? my last option would be to step up to 1.5 inch returns and bulkhead fittings and try to make them a little bit lower. or another option that i am looking at would be when i drain the tank to move it into the house to fill and patch the current bulkhead fitting holes and then re-drill the holes lower. or one last idea use the current return bulkhead fittings and step up to 1.5 inch return pipes what do you think is the best way to go?

Oh, that sucks. I think you want as few holes in the tank as possible, so I would leave redrilling as an absolute last possibility. I would try the 45* elbows next. That sounds like a good idea.

First off you never want to restrick the intak on a pump only the output.

You could put a valve on the return line to allow less flow back to the tank. However unless you are worried about too much flow i would want to use the full flow of the pump fro filtration. I would think a larger drain to the sump would be good. Maybe drill the new hole offset down a little but still incasing the old hole.

that is what i am going to do and i think i lost some people with terminology sorry the hole time i was talking about my drain to the sump. i just bought some 1.5 inch pipe and fittings to try and diy up some bulkhead fittings if they don't work my plan is to buy some ready made ones

well i found some 1.5 inch bulkheads from my local pool supply store so i will be installing those tonight and finishing up my overflow plumbing. i will be re drilling the holes as low as i can without exposing the previous hole or making the water line lower than the wood band at the top of the tank

well guys the 1.5 inch pipe fixed my problem the water does not get more than 3/4 the way up the bulkhead fittings which leaves my water level at one inch from the top of the tank. i also incorporated the dorso standpipe into my drains it turns out that my fittings that i bought have a lip on them that accepts a 1.5 inch elbow so it made this part easy. my next thought is to add an over flow box . my reasoning is that i will be trying to grow duck weed in the tank for decor and turtle snacks and i fear that with my top spray-bar and my overflows that the duck weed will get sucked into the sump. so i figure either add a grill tot he overflow and forget the elbows or add an over flow box just big enough to encompass my drains. what do you think about this? this would keep both fish and my duck weed out of the sump

Duckweed is pretty small right? Would it just flow past the teeth of the over flow, or a srceen that would keep it out would be ver restrictive and get clogged. Duckweed to me doesn't seem like a good plant for a tank with good surface skimming.

Tank looks nice, i love the look os stained wood. Glad you got the over flows figured out.

it is small but grows in clumps so i think i may just add a cage around the overflow made from egg crate is should stop most of it from going down but i will still loose some
